The State Government has taken up several steps to attract more people to libraries. There are 2,480 state-run libraries and there are around 1.8 crore books in the libraries in Bengal.
Eleven review meetings to take a stock of the progress of work for betterment of the facilities in libraries and about ongoing programmes were held after the change of guard in the state. Review meetings for better functioning of the libraries never took place in the last 27 years of the Left Front regime as per a reply by the concerned Minister to the Assembly.
The State Government took steps to organise discussions on life and work of eminent people in libraries so that more and more people come and become member of the libraries to read books. Area has been created in each libraries so that children and women can sit comfortably while reading books. Such steps would help attract more people to the libraries. Surveys have already been conducted in nine districts to get a figure of the readers. The necessary tasks after the surveys have also been carried out.
রাজ্যের গ্রন্থাগার গুলিকে জনপ্রিয় করতে নানা উদ্যোগ রাজ্যের
গ্রন্থাগারগুলিকে জনপ্রিয় করতে বিভিন্ন পদক্ষেপ গ্রহণ করেছে রাজ্য সরকার। বর্তমানে রাজ্য সরকার পরিচালিত গ্রন্থাগারের সংখ্যা ২,৪৮০, এবং সেখানে প্রায় ১.৮ কোটি বই রয়েছে।
গ্রন্থাগার পরিষেবা আরও ভাল করার জন্য এবং নতুন সরকার আসার পর কি কি উন্নয়নমূলক পদক্ষেপ নেওয়া হয়েছে সেই বিষয়ে ১১ টি পর্যালোচনা বৈঠক করা হবে। গত ২৭ বছরে বামফ্রন্টের শাসনকালে কোন রকম উন্নয়নমূলক পদক্ষেপ নেওয়া হয়নি সেই সম্পর্কেও আলোচনা হবে এই বৈঠকে।
গ্রন্থাগারগুলিতে বিভিন্ন মনিষীদের জীবন ও কাজ নিয়ে একটি আলোচনা সভা আয়োজন করার পদক্ষেপ নিচ্ছে রাজ্য সরকার আরও বেশি সংখ্যক মানুষ যাতে গ্রন্থাগারে আসেন এবং সেখানকার সদস্য হন। প্রতিটি লাইব্রেরিতে একটি করে জায়গা থাকে যেখানে শিশু ও মহিলারা বসে বই পড়তে পারেন। এই ধরনের পদক্ষেপ গ্রন্থাগারগুলিকে মানুষের কাছে আরও আকর্ষণীয় করে তুলবে। ইতিমধ্যেই পাঠকদের সংখ্যা জানতে ৯ টি জেলায় একটি সমীক্ষা শুরু হয়েছে। সমীক্ষার পর প্রয়োজনীয় কাজগুলোও সম্পন্ন করা হয়েছে।
