Sajjan Jindal, head of the JSW Group, announced today in Kolkata that the company is going to make fresh investments worth Rs 3,400 crore in Bengal.

The announcement was made at a joint press conference in Nabanna, the State secretariat, hosted by Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Earlier during the day, he had met the Chief Minister to intimate her of the company’s plans for the State. It was attended by high-ranking officials of the State, including the chief secretary, Basudeb Banerjee.

The high-capacity cement plant in Salboni in Paschim Medinipur district was cleared during the meeting. A 200,000-kilolitre capacity paint plant is also coming up in the State, to cater to the whole of eastern India.

The Chief Minister said employment opportunities for about 4,000 people will be created because of the investments. She mentioned that there is no alternative to hard work.

The group will also be providing skill training to local youths. This is a welcome move, according to the Chief Minister.

As part of the company’s CSR activities, the group will set up a farming cooperative with farmers who gave land in Salboni for the cement plant. The latest technologies would be used to make the farming viable and profitable. The profits will be shared with the farmers.

The Chief Minister was visibly happy for the series of investments announced, and said, “We are grateful to them for their Bijoya gift (investment)”.

Mamata Banerjee said during the press conference that Sajjan Jindal has been invited for the Bengal Global Business Summit in 2017.

The Chief Minister also said that Bengal is the main destination for investments now and that the State is the gateway to north-eastern India, as well as to the countries of Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Myanmar.

 

 

বাংলায় আরও ৩৪০০ কোটি টাকা বিনিয়োগ করবে জিন্দল গোষ্ঠী

আজ নবান্নে মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর সঙ্গে বৈঠক করেন শিল্পপতি সজ্জন জিন্দল৷ পশ্চিম মেদিনীপুরের শালবনিতে সিমেন্ট কারখানা তৈরির জন্য জমি দেওয়া হয়েছে জিন্দলদের৷ শালবনির প্রকল্পের ভবিষ্যৎ নিয়ে আলোচনা হয় বৈঠকে। বৈঠকে রাজ্যের মুখ্যসচিব বাসুদেব বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়-সহ প্রশাসনের অন্যান্য শীর্ষকর্তারা উপস্থিত ছিলেন।

বৈঠকের পর নবান্নে সাংবাদিকদের মুখোমুখি হন  মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়। প্রথমেই তিনি জিন্দল শিল্পগোষ্ঠীর কর্ণধারকে শুভেচ্ছা জানান। তিনি বলেন, জিন্দল গ্রুপ বাংলায় আরও ৩৪০০ কোটি টাকা বিনিয়োগ করছে। এর ফলে রাজ্যে প্রায় ৪০০০ কর্মসংস্থান তৈরি হবে।

তিনি আরও বলেন, “পরিশ্রমের বিকল্প কিছু নেই ।  কৃষকদের জমি ফেরত দিতে চাইলে তারা বিকল্প আয়ের উপায় চান। সেখানে তৈরি হবে অ্যাগ্রো ফার্ম। কৃষকদের সেখানে প্রশিক্ষণ দেওয়া হবে। তাদের ফার্মে নিয়োগ করা হবে। যেসব কৃষকরা শালবনিতে জমি দিয়েছেন তাদের সঙ্গে একটি কো-অপারেটিভ তৈরি করবে জিন্দল গ্রুপ। যা মুনাফা হবে তা কৃষকদের সঙ্গে শেয়ার করা হবে। ২০১৮ সালের মধ্যে এই কারখানা চালু করতে আগ্রহী জিন্দল গ্রুপ”।

মুখ্যমন্ত্রী জানান, ২০১৭ বিশ্ববঙ্গ বাণিজ্য সম্মেলনে জিন্দল জিকে আমন্ত্রণ জানানো হয়েছে, আমরা বিজয়ার উপহার পেয়ে খুব খুশি। বাংলাই এখন বিনিয়োগের প্রধান গন্তব্য। উত্তর পূর্ব ভারত, নেপাল, ভুটান, বাংলাদেশ, মায়ানমারের গেটওয়ে এখন বাংলা।

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday said the Jindal group has decided to return the 294 acres of land in Salboni purchased directly from farmers for the project.

“The Jindal Group has communicated to Finance Minister Amit Mitra that it desires to hand over the land acquired from the farmers. It said it would not take back the money given to the farmers while acquiring the land,” she told reporters.

The Chief Minister said that since the plant was not coming up, the farmers who gave their land sought its return.

“The major part of the land of the proposed project which was taken by the company from the government is still with them. We will see what they do with it in future,” she said.

The Chief Minister said a committee headed by the district magistrate would be formed to work out the procedure for returning the land to the farmers.

Describing Jindal’s decision to return the land to the farmers as a “bold” move, she said, “We have been talking of the same thing in respect of Singur.”
