WB CM threatens to renew stir against Centre for funds

West Bengal Chief Minister on Tuesday threatened to launch a post-poll drive against the Centre if funds for Bengal are not released. She said, “After elections, I’ll make a drive against Centre. I’m not disclosing it right now.“

With children in her audience, Mamata Banerjee chose a simple analogy . “If the major portion of your father’s income is taken away by someone else, can he maintain your family or do any good for you?“ The answer was a vociferous “no“.

She said, “We are carrying out the burden of previous government’s loan. I had urged the UPA government then to the present government now.But none did anything. Instead the amount is only increasing. In 2011-12 they (Centre) had taken away Rs 21000 crore while in 2015-16 they will take Rs 30000 crore. They never bothered to ask how I can run the state.”

WB CM added, “We have increased our income to Rs 40000 crore. With this we could have employed at least 20 lakh. But with such a huge amount going to loan repayment, we can do nothing.”

She criticized the Centre on the issue of intolerance as well. “Not only religious intolerance, but we are also facing the political intolerance today. Those belonging to opposition political parties are facing the wrath of the rulers.”

The Chief Minister was in Malda to lay foundation of 43 projects and inaugurate 33 projects.

WB CM slams Centre for not releasing funds

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday criticised the BJP government at the Centre for not releasing funds for central schemes such as the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan and the Backward Regions Grant Fund (BRGF). She was in Nadia’s Tehatta to inaugurate several projects, mainly for the district.

“We’ll continue providing funds for the ICDS programme. We have been paying off the interest for the Central government loans taken by the CPI(M) during its tenure. We have to pay Rs 28,000 crore only as interest for the same. Otherwise, we would have funded all Central programmes,” the chief minister said.

She came to Tehatta on Monday and inaugurated several projects while laying the foundation stone of others.

While criticising the BJP government, she did not spare the CPI(M) either, blaming them for the loans taken by them towards the end of their 34-year rule.

“When we start development projects, we complete them. In this way, we keep our promises,” she said.

Blaming the Centre, she said that the Centre is supposed to bear 90% of the cost of ICDS while the state’s share is 10%. “Yet, the Central government has stopped releasing funds for ICDS. What will happen to the kids? So, we’ll continue funding the scheme,” Mamata Banerjee said.

She added that her government would distribute 1,75,000 cycles in Nadia for boys and girls studying in classes 9 to 12 under the Sabuj Sathi scheme.

“Out of 1,75,00 cycles, we are handing over 5,000 today (Monday) and the remaining would be given soon. We have already announced that we will distribute 40 lakh cycles in the state but right now only 25 lakh are available due to lack of production. We hope to hand over all the cycles by January, 2016,” the chief minister said.

She also said that her government has increased the remuneration of civic volunteers and Asha workers. Highlighting her government’s achievements, she described the list of development projects in the district.

We deserve Central funds as we have performed well: WB CM at Delhi

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee met Union Finance Minister on Tuesday to discuss disbursement of central funds to the state.

She has been consistently taking up the issue of disbursement of central funds to the State on each of her visits in Delhi.

On Tuesday, the West Bengal Chief Minister said she took up the issue of funds for flood relief as the Centre has given West Bengal nothing so far on this account.

She also pointed out to the finance minister that no funds from the Centre have reached the state on account of development in the backward regions even while the state is supposed to get Rs 3,000 crore for BRGF.

The West Bengal Chief Minister said the Central Government had withdrawn 39 projects from the State and in case of 54 projects the funding pattern had changed. While earlier the Centre would have provided for 90% of the funds and states 10 %, now there will be a 60-40 sharing ratio, she explained.

On the day, the West Bengal Chief Minister also visited Rashtrapati Bhavan and handed over the digitised declassified Netaji Files.
