Trinamool’s Derek O’Brien speaks during the welcome of the Hon Rajya Sabha Chairman

FULL TRANSCRIPT
Now that I have to address you not as Venkaiah Ji but as Mr Chairman for the first time, let me welcome you in your favourite style – couplet in RHYME.
As you begin your innings in the new term,
we are sure you will keep your sense of humour and yet be firm.
Mr Chairman Sir I have a simple preposition,
may the chair always allow the voice of opposition.
Sir, even when the debates get overheated Chairman Sir,
we know you would not lose your cool with my colleagues from Trinamool.
And of course we all know you will never ever commit the sin,
of passing a Bill in the din.
Short Duration Discussions and Calling Attention Motions we will seek and I am sure
we the opposition will seek,
And we are absolutely sure you will list at least 2 every week,
And when ministers give sketchy answers in Question Hour,
you will guide them and use your sage like power.
And of course, we know your legendary love for prawn,
Sir, we wish you well as you begin a new dawn.
Sir, you have made acronyms the new national pastime. I know many people are suggesting to you that you should stop the acronyms but we say, no. You should carry on with your acronyms because you take the letters and make some wonderful words out of them.
So, I had the courage, as I conclude, to come up with one acronym because we believe that is your role here.
The acronym is for NAIDU.
Now All India’s Dearest Umpire.
Thank you, Sir.
