Saugata Roy asked for a clarification from MoEFCC on plans for likely climate refugees of the future
Sir, the Minister was giving his very able, measured and rational reply. What is the Government’s programme regarding thermal power plants? We know that coal-fired thermal power plants are the biggest environmentally-polluting plants possible. Has the Government formed a policy? If they have formed a policy, then I would like to know this. What is their policy with regard to extraction of coal, etc.? The Power Minister is also here. mentioned that all these coastal areas including cities of Mumbai and Chennai will be affected because the water level will rise due to global warming, and slowly these coastal areas will be affected. What is the Minister’s action plan on climate refugees, which will start happening in another 10-20 years? Do we have a long-term plan for it? Thank you for allowing me, Sir.
