Pratima Mondal makes Zero Hour mention on inclusion of Dentistry as a subject for Civil Services Examination

FULL TRANSCRIPT

Sir,

The Civil Services Examination conducted by UPSC is one of the most coveted exams in the country. It is responsible for appointing the bureaucrats who are tha backbone of our nation. The examination pattern requires a candidate to choose optional subjects, which play the most important role in qualifying for the mains examination. There are various subjects to choose from but it is seen that candidates opt for the same subjects in which they did their graduation. Today I would like to represent and raise the matter of the thousands of applicants from the dental science background.

According to the applicants, it is difficult for them to choose an optional subject as Dentistry is not included as a subject by UPSC. There are several subjects like Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Veterinary Science, Medical Science and Engineering, but Dentistry is left out. This discourages the candidates and they are forced to opt for an altogether new subject, which makes it very difficult for them. I believe that dental education has been neglected by the government. It is high time to give the subject its due.

I would like to request the government through you, Sir, to look into the matter seriously and try to include Dentistry among the list of popular subjects in the Civil Services Examination.
