Mala Roy asks Centre to reconsider Kolkata Metro fare hike

Full Transcript
Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation governed by Indian Rail Board has increased fares by Rs 5 at every stage. Fares up after 2 kilometres, thereby causing financial burden on 6.5 lakh passengers on a daily basis and particularly one lakh common people who come from low income group, students, unemployed youth and entire senior citizens.
Why the Rail Board did not take into consideration other options to increase revenue by setting retail outlets, pharmacies and installing ATMs etc rather than burdening the common people with fare hikes?
What measure Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation has taken to improve the poorly maintained Metro and reason for frequent disruptions, accidents and disasters including the recent unprecedented one on 31st August when 50 buildings in Bowbazar area were found having cracks and around 400 persons had to be evacuated.
Miss Mamata Bannerjee was a Railway Minister for a long time but she did not increase fares any time. So I request the Railway Minister to consider the price hike of metro tickets.
Thank you, Sir.
