Trinamool manifesto focuses on common people, promises reforms – The Times of India

Trinamool Chairperson Ms. Mamata Banerjee on Saturday released a two-in-one election manifesto – one for the state and some salient points in case the party comes to power with emphasis on development and reforms, electoral, administrative and judicial – to weed out corruption and scams that have surfaced at the national level.

While saying so, the Trinamool Chairperson reiterated her solo battle claiming that Congress, BJP and CPM have lost credibility among people.

A strong advocate for setting up a state fund for political parties in the fray, the Trinamool Chairperson came down heavily on fund raising drives of political parties during elections. Citing instances of UK, Germany, France and Canada, she proposed government funding for elections.

Taking a dig at BJP`s `chai pe charcha` and seat auction drives at Narendra Modi`s rallies, Mamata said, “Someone is raising funds online, someone is selling tea, while someone is selling seats at meetings. In fact, they have different rates for seats in different rows.” She also pointed out that parties are even asking people to join them at dinners against hefty donations. “How come some of the parties have wealth to the tune of thousands of crores? There should be a law to bring back black money parked overseas.”

The Trinamool manifesto is focused on people`s issues – `roti, kapda aur makan`, highlighting steps to check the spiraling inflation. Claiming that Trinamool will emerge the third largest party post polls, Ms. Banerjee stressed on faster implementation of Lokpal and Lokayukta in all states.

Promising employment generation to tackle `jobless growth` in the country, Ms. Banerjee proposed economic reforms. The manifesto proposes a new national investment policy with focus on increasing employment and productivity. It has also proposed new PPP policy and new foreign trade policy to boost export growth in the country. “Our manifesto has been prepared keeping the youth in mind,” she said.

Proposing a host of reforms in areas like judiciary, health and education, Ms. Banerjee showcased the achievements of her government in last two and a half years. The manifesto, which proposed `inclusive growth` and `no forceful land acquisition`, opened with an account of the Bengal`s achievement in covering 94% Muslim population in the state under the reservation for OBC category. It also proposed special status to the tribal population, which will be similar to the BPL category.

In the manifesto, Ms. Banerjee cleared her party`s position for coming out of both NDA and UPA II government. “We chose to withdraw from all the ministerial portfolios and withdrew from UPA II altogether to protect the interest of common man,” Trinamool commented in the manifesto. The 62 point manifesto, which took `little more time`, will provide guiding principles for the `honest and grassroots-based` federal front, she felt.

HIGHLIGHTS OF MANIFESTO

  • Reforms: electoral, administrative and judicial
  • Stress on people`s issues – `roti, kapda aur makan`, highlighting steps to check the spiralling inflation
  • Government funding for elections
  • Faster implementation of Lokpal and Lokayukta in all states
  • New national investment policy with focus on increasing employment and productivity
  • New PPP and foreign trade policies to boost export growth in the country

Secularism, Development, Progress – The focus of Trinamool`s Election Manifesto

Focusing on roti kapda aur makaan (food, dress and shelter), the Trinamool Congress released its Manifesto for the upcoming Lok Sabha election, promising electoral reforms, transparency and a corruption-free India.

The document said if voted to power, the Trinamool would pursue a policy of the government not acquiring land, and ensure free medical services for senior citizens.

Trinamool Chairperson Ms. Mamata Banerjee, who officially unveiled the document, attacked the Congress, the BJP and the CPI(M) saying they have “lost their credibility”.

“Roti, kapda and makaan is our focus. Our Manifesto is for a dynamic India. Our Manifesto is people-friendly, industry-friendly and agriculture-friendly,” Ms. Banerjee said.

She underscored the urgent need for electoral reforms, and called for state funding of elections as a part of the fight against graft.

Iterating that the system has become corrupt, the Chairperson said: “We will bring in electoral reforms. We will set up a mechanism to make the election process transparent. We will make it state-funded through the Election Commission.

“Many countries have state funded elections. Why can`t India have one?” she wondered.

She alleged that parties claiming to be poor have also amassed a lot of wealth while new outfits which came into existence some months back were also flush with money.

The Manifesto called for judicial reforms and administrative reforms.

“We believe that the fundamental values and traditions of India should be honoured. We have to work with the youth,” she said.

The Manifesto also laid down a loan waiver scheme for poor farmers, and announced special scheme for their children. The party declared that it would not allow forcible acquisition of land, and “modify the land acquisition law if it was voted to power.

“We will create land maps and land banks to help industry acquire land. Government will not acquire any land. Tribals should get the right to forests.”

The Manifesto resolved to introduce a judicious taxation system, and laid stress on rain water harvesting and a new energy policy, upgrade of the National Highway connectivity, and amendment of the Motor Vehicles Law.

The party promised to bring in a beneficial scheme for economically backward sections, and said it would create a “talent bank” creating a lot of employment opportunities.

“We want drinking water for all. Water has to be purified, free from arsenic contamination,” said Banerjee.

The Trinamool said the National Highway connectivity needed an upgrade, while the Motor Vehicles Law should be amended.

In the past few years, West Bengal`s public finances have undergone a significant transformation. Trinamool Chairperson slams Congress and BJP for appeasement politics at a meeting in Madhyamgram

The Trinamool Chairperson today addressed a meeting at Madhyamgram in North 24 Parganas district where she urged voters to annihilate the Congress, BJP and the Left parties which have formed an “unholy nexus”. She also slammed the Left Front for ruining economy of the State during the 34 years of rule and Congress for colluding with the Communists.

Coming down heavily on the communal ideology of the BJP, destructive politics of the Left and the anti-people policies of the Congress, the Trinamool Chairperson asked people to shower their votes on Trinamool for a change at the Centre. She also introduced the 5 candidates – Saugata Roy (Dumdum), Kapil Krishna Thakur (Bangaon), Idrish Ali (Basirhat), Dinesh Trivedi (Barrackpore), Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar (Barasat) – from North 24 Parganas during the meeting.

Excerpts from the Chairperson`s speech:

Good evening my dear brothers and sisters. Thank you all for coming for the meeting from far away places and waiting for so long.

We supported the UPA. But when their policies went against the people, we decided to quit the alliance. Commitment to people is supreme. When we saw our manifesto was being violated, we quit the UPA. They hiked the prices of gas, petrol, diesel, fertilisers. We do not want the UPA to be back.

Some people are chanting NaMo NaMo. We are saying No No. We cannot tolerate the politics of riots. The Congress and the BJP have a got-up match. One does not take action against the other when in power. Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Adivasis, SC/STs live together in India in harmony.

There is no place for riots in India. We cannot let the nation to be divided. ome political parties are like seasonal birds, seen only during elections. Some people appease certain religions only during elections. We celebrate Durga Puja with full faith. We do not have to learn about Hinduism from BJP.

The Congress appeases Muslims during elections. But they have hardly acted for their welfare. The CPI(M)-BJP-Congress are in collusion in Bengal. You have seen it in Panchayat elections. We were part of the NDA under Atal ji. We quit the alliance when their policies went against the people.

Saugata Da here gave 20 amendments for Telangana Bill. They did not allow division. The Bill was passed illegally. What they did with Telangana, they can do to Bengal. Centre has no right to bypass the State. If the Centre has its way, they might turn every district of Bengal into a separate State. CPI(M) will collude with them. Both Darjeeling and plains are part of Bengal. We will not tolerate any conspiracy to divide the State.

Neither BJP, nor Congress or CPI(M). This syndicate can be broken by Trinamool alone. This land is my motherland. I will not allow any conspiracy to divide this State. I love all districts equally. Bengal will lead the way for India`s future.

66 years have passed since Independence. What has the Congress done for minorities? How has the Congress countered BJP? Under whose tenure did the Babri demolition take place. We have given 57 lakh scholarships to minority students.

The CPI(M) distributed only 12,000 pattas between 2009-11. In the last two and a half years we gave away over 1 lakh pattas. Only 38 colleges were opened in Bengal in the 66 years after Independence. We set up 31 colleges in two and a half years. We have set up 8 universities in just two and a half years. An all-women university is coming up in Diamond Harbour.

We have opened fair price medicine shops. Poor people in rural areas are getting medicines for free. We have increased the bed capacity in several hospitals. We are starting 34 new multi super specialty hospitals. We are setting up 500 marketing centres where the youth can get jobs. We are setting up Kisan Bazaars in every block. We are taking steps to resolve the issues of jute mills.

We are a poor party. We do not have the resources to become the biggest party in India. But we will emerge as the third largest party. We will build Trinamool as the alternative to the Congress and BJP.

The Centre has taken away Rs 74000 crores as repayment for debts. How will the State work? The CPI(M) incurred debts and Congress is taking away funds. We are still running the State amid hardship. The Centre released Ganga water to Bangladesh from Farakka. Irrigation in the State is suffering. We have no problem in sharing water with others, but we must first meet our own needs.

Every State is different. WB and Gujarat cannot be compared. Gujarat has many ports. Bengal has only 2, but the Centre has destroyed those too. No Govt in India can work for the people despite the financial crunch we are in. School dropout rate is highest in Gujarat. Child mortality rate in Gujarat is 42% but in Bengal it is only 31%. We give rice at Rs 2 per kilo to 3.2 crore people. Jangalmahal is living in peace.

Just for the sake of winning one seat from Bengal, some outsiders are fanning separatism in Hills. I may have lost my mother, but every mother in every household in Bengal is my mother too. We will turn Bengal into Biswa Bangla. We are moving ahead in every sphere.

We want Poriborton in Delhi. We have the people by our side. We are not alone. Bengal will reclaim her position as the best in the world. India will progress, only if Bengal progresses.

I seek the blessings of my elders. I want the support of the youth. Trinamool will be with the Ma, Mati, Manush. Shower your blessings on us. Help us achieve a decisive role in the Centre.

We promised to build 17 Industrial clusters, we have created over hundred. We had promised to create 50000 ponds in five years. We have already created over a lakh ponds. We fulfill our promises. We keep our commitment to the people.

We will have to defeat the syndicate of Congress-CPI(M)-BJP. I seek the support and blessings of you all. Vote for joraphool. Vote for Trinamool.

Jai Hind.

Trinamool Chairperson asks people to vote for change at Centre at a meeting in Nadia

The Trinamool Chairperson today addressed a meeting at Krishnanagar in Nadia district where she urged voters to annihilate the Congress, BJP and the Left parties which have formed an “unholy nexus”. She also condemned the murder of a party worker in Nadia and asked the district leaders to organise protest rallies once the Higher Secondary examination gets over.

The Trinamool Congress Chairperson slammed the erstwhile Left Front government in the state for burdening Bengal with huge debts for which the central government has taken away Rs.74,000 crore towards servicing the debts in the last two and half years.

Excerpts from the Chairperson`s speech:

My dear brothers and sisters, I welcome you all.

The politics of murder and violence will not be tolerated in Bengal. Right now we all have to work together as a team, not as a part of the different units. Women are the assets of Trinamool. Their increased involvement in politics is a sign of progress. We have given 27% seats to women in the Lok Sabha polls. Women have 50% reservation in Panchayat.

We are setting up 34 multi super-specialty hospitals in the State. The number of medical seats in Bengal has been hiked from 1350 to 2700. We have set up 4 new medical colleges in the State and opened fair price medicine shops in Bengal, where you can get up to 60% discount on medicines. We are setting up a mother and child care hospital in Nadia.

We have launched the Kanyashree scheme. Our target for the year was targeting 16 lakh girls. Already 9 lakh girls have been enrolled. We are setting up a Industrial Growth Centre in Kalyani. We are in the process of setting up ITIs and polytechnic colleges in every block.

Only 38 Govt colleges were opened in Bengal after Independence till 2011. We set up 31 colleges in the last two and a half years. The Left Front opened only 6 SNCUs during its tenure. We have set up 36 SNCUs in the last two and a half years. How many pattas did the Left distribute in 2009-11? Only 10000. How many did we distribute in last 2.5 years? Over one lakh. We have distributed 28 lakh Kisan Credit cards, over 2 lakh only in Nadia alone.

The Centre has not been releasing the funds for 100 days work. They are taking away Rs 74000 crore for debt repayment. The Centre only creates projects in the name of members of a family, but does not give us funds. I request the Centre to stop taking Rs 40000 crores as taxes. And we will not require your funds.

The CPI(M) incurs debt, but we have to pay for their sins. The Congress is in collusion with the Left. Our revenue collection is increasing every year, but the Centre takes away a lion`s share for debt repayment. How will we work? The way we work for the people in spite of financial hardships, no other Govt can do that.

People are our assets. They are our strength. We cannot go against the people. The manifesto reflects the ideology of a party. We can`t go against our manifesto, it means betraying people. We have created reservation for minorities and backward classes without touching the General seats. We have increased number of seats. Poor people have no caste or creed. We have created reservation for economically backward classes. No other party has done that.

The Congress appeases Muslims and the BJP appeases Hindus as soon as elections approach. Trinamool Congress participates in all religious activities throughout the year. Not just during poll season. We celebrate Durga Puja, Eid and Christmas with the same spirit. We do not discriminate between people. Bengal has a rich legacy of religious tolerance. Bengal teaches people to respect all faiths. We do not support riots. We will not allow any riot in Bengal.

Gujarat has received a lot of Central funds for development. Gujarat has a low population density. They have a lot of ports. Can the CM of Gujarat work for his people if the Centre takes away Rs 74000 crore? The rate of child mortality in Gujarat is 42%. National average is 46%. Bengal has 31% child mortality rate. Riots take place in Gujarat. Not in Bengal. I love the people of Gujarat.

Women could not even report crimes earlier. Diaries are not allowed. Now women are speaking up. CPM represents destructive politics, BJP is communal. The Congress is anti-people and corrupt. The Congress and BJP came together to divide Andhra against the wishes of the State. We asked for division of votes during Telangana discussion in Parliament. They did not allow. How can Congress and BJP decide between themselves what States should do? The got-up match cannot be allowed. We will never allow the division of Bengal.

Only Trinamool can counter the communal politics of BJP. Only Trinamool can expose the hypocrisy of Congress and show the world their anti-people face. The Congress hiked the prices of every essential commodity. We protested against FDI and other anti-people policies. The Centre brought down the number of subsidised LPG cylinders. We protested. Now they have retracted their decision. The Congress has hiked the prices of every commodity. The price of human life has gone down. The Congress uses blackmail strategies to ensure other parties support them. They cannot scare the Trinamool.

Bengal is the intellectual and cultural capital. Bengal is the land of renaissance in India. Stay well, stay healthy. Be prepared to fight resolutely against the syndicate of CPI(M)-Congress-BJP. We have to ensure we get maximum seats from Bengal, so that Centre can no longer afford to neglect our demands. We have to show the rest of India what Bengal is capable of. I may not have backing of media, but I have the support of people. Ensure that Trinamool wins all seats from this district.

God bless you all.
