The sight-seeing tour of New Town introduced by the Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (HIDCO) has gained momentum with more and more people participating in the tour that showcases prominent tourist spots of the rapidly-developing zone of the city.

Promoting tourism in Rajarhat

The tour coined as `New Town Sight-seeing Tour` covers tourist spots like Eco Park, Arts Acre, Hazra Kalibari, Nazrul Tirtha, Rabindra Tirtha, Finance Centre among others. The tour kicked off on 23 September and since then four trips have already been made.

Since the opening of Eco Park two years back, the tourist spot has received around 14 lakh visitors. HIDCO wants to enhance the experience and hence this concept of sight-seeing tour came up. All the tourist spots apart from Eco Space came up in the past two years.  With this package tour, the visitors will have more choices to visit places of interest.

Tourism at art centres

Visitors will get an opportunity to have a glimpse at the replicas of famous paintings of Tagore at Rabindra Tirtha.  At Rabindra Tirtha, two exhibitions always go on – one exhibition includes the photographs of Tagore and his families, and the other consists of Tagore's paintings.  Tourists will also get an opportunity to see the sculptures made by noted sculptors like Ashok Chakraborty that have been placed at various parts of New Town.

An experience of a lifetime

Plans are under way to incorporate this touring package on the West Bengal tourism website with an option of online booking and e-payment.
A Wax Museum, which would give the residents of this city a taste of famous wax works at Madame Tussauds, will soon come up in New Town and is expected to act as a crowd puller. The museum will be located on the 6th floor of the building named `Finance Sector`.
The `Newtown Sight-seeing Tour` will be conducted every Sunday next month onwards.

West Bengal government will set up an eight-storey film centenary museum in Kolkata where film artifacts and memorabilia have mostly been at the disposal of private hands. The archive, which will be a treat for both film lovers and researchers, will come up at Tollygunge, not too far away from the studio-para and its associated industry, Tollywood.

The museum project, meant to mark 100 years of Indian cinema and the “golden age” of Bengali cinema, will maintain a record of films released down the ages. The proposed 'Cinema Centenary Campus', as it has been christened, will have a built-up space of 60,000 square feet. It will be equipped with state-of-the-art galleries and lighting systems. The state information and culture department is preparing a list of films to be acquired for the project. Another list of restored films, which will be transferred into negatives, is also being chalked out.

Starting off as a ready-reckoner of the history of cinema, especially Bengali cinema, the museum will trace the evolution of celluloid from the Lumiere brothers to Raja Harishchandra and beyond, and showcase Indian and Bengali cinema through three principal eras – silent, golden and modern.

The multi-storey structure, which will come up at the erstwhile Radha Studio complex beside M R Bangur Hospital, will have a basement for parking. The PWD has taken up the construction. The fire services department has also been roped in for a thorough fire prevention network.

The biggest attraction of the project will be a library that will document film history right from the era of silent movies to those of the digital age. Space has been reserved to construct guest rooms for visiting film artists, directors and technicians, a cafeteria, a curio shop and an auditorium. While inaugurating the renovated century-old Technicians' Studio in February this year, the chief minister had expressed her intention to create an exhaustive film museum. She apparently got the idea from the 6,000-square foot National Museum of Indian Cinema set up by the Union ministry of information and broadcasting in Mumbai. However, Banerjee's plans are on a much bigger scale. The centenary campus will hold film-related seminars and workshops, apart from regular film shows.

Vaults will be installed in the proposed museum with state-of-the-art temperature and humidity control systems for preserving colour and black and white films. Visitors will also be able to watch old classics on a number of monitors or listen to rare film music from the past – a sort of free jukebox.

A two-storey building for film studies that existed on the Radha Studio campus on Deshpran Sashmal Road at Tollygunge is now being dismantled for the construction of the film centenary museum.

West Bengal has once again proved to be the best in the nation by bagging the Krishi Karman award from the Central Government third time in a row. The State will be receiving this award for its record production of pulses and other such crops. The area of land under cultivation has also increased in the State.

State Agricultural Minister Mr Purnendu Bose said that the State agricultural department was informed about this a few days back.

The award will be presented to the State at a programme in Delhi on October 14,

A presentation will also be given at New Delhi which consists of the policies which have been adopted by the state to get maximum turnovers. It will also highlight usage of energy, irrigation techniques, manure, and credits etc, which have been adopted to motivate peasants.

National President of Trinamool Yuva Mr Abhishek Banerjee strongly condemned the irresponsible, fictitious and malicious comments of Mr Subramaniyam Swami on social media.

Dear Mr Swamy,

Without an iota of doubt I can say that you are good at sharing your thoughts and expressing your views only on Twitter and Facebook accounts. Your public interaction remains confined within four walls of the studios of a few news channels. On a personal note, may I please ask you how many times have you changed your party? Your credentials remains battered and bruised within the saffron fold, of which you are the self-proclaimed savior.

Elaborate security arrangements by Kolkata police as well as civic authorities are in place at various ghats of the river Hooghly to ensure that the immersion of Durga idols passes off peacefully. Officers of the Kolkata Police are manning the riverfront to prevent onlookers from getting too close to the river. Special vigil is being maintained from a watch tower near the ghat.

Cranes have been deployed at certain ghats to lift and extricate the remains of idols from the river to avoid pollution. Additional lights have been put up at the immersion ghats and the flowers, levers and metallic weapons are being dumped in separate vats to avoid polluting the river.

 Other than maintaining law and order during immersion, the teams of river police and disaster management groups patrolling the Hooghly river. Closed-circuit television cameras have been installed at certain ghats.

More than 2,700 community pujas were organised in the city and their idols will be immersed in the river. Arrangements have been made for the immersion of idols at around 13 river ghats. Over 200 volunteers were engaged by the civic body at the various locations.

There will be no immersion on October 5 because of Eid. They will resume on October 6 after 8 PM.

“It is a Bengali ritual that Goddess Lakshmi cannot be worshipped before bidding farewell to Goddess Durga. So the immersion has to be completed before we celebrate Lakshmi Puja on October 7,” WB CM said at a function earlier this month.
The Kolkata Police had already released the permission forms for immersion procedure on its website.

এক সংকটময় পরিস্থিতির মধ্য দিয়ে আজ বাংলার রাজনীতি পরিচালিত হচ্ছে। জীবনের চলার পথে শঙ্কটের এই মুহূর্তে অতীতের অভিজ্ঞতাই হাতিয়ার। তাই সুনির্দিষ্ট লক্ষ্যের দিকে চোখ রেখে চেতনায় শান দিতে মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের দীর্ঘ লড়াইয়ের প্রতিটা পদক্ষেপ আরও একবার ফিরে দেখা প্রয়োজন।

কংগ্রেসের পতাকাতলে শুরু। মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের  নেতৃত্বে আট-নয়ের দশক উত্তাল করে একের পর এক আন্দোলন হয়েছে। মানুষের দাবি নিয়ে বারবার আঘাত হানা হয়েছে। তদানীন্তন বামফ্রন্ট সারকারের অপশাসনের মুলে। সেদিন অবিভক্ত কংগ্রেসের যুবনেত্রী হিসাবে মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় উপলব্ধি করেছিলেন, ভোটের বাক্সে মানুষের গনতান্ত্রিক অধিকার প্রয়োগের মৌলিক মর্যাদাটুকুও দিতে চায়ে না কমিউনিস্ট  পার্টি মার্কসবাদীর শাসকরা। তাই ১৯৯৩ সালে ২১ জুলাই সচিত্র পরিচয়পত্রের দাবিতে ঐতিহাসিক মহাকরণ অভিযানের ডাক দিয়েছিলেন তিনি। সেদিন কাকদ্বিপ থেকে কোচবিহার উদ্বেল করে হাজার হাজার ছাত্র-যুব, জনতার মিছিল আছড়ে পড়েছিল কলকাতার রাজপথে। সেদিনের আন্দোলন বামফ্রন্ট সরকারের ভিত কতটা নাড়িয়ে দিতে পেরেছিল তা জানা নেই, কিন্তু অধিকারের দাবিতে জাতীয়তাবাদী যুবকদের মিছিল নিঃসন্দেহেই বুক কাঁপিয়ে দিইয়েছিল মহাকরণের তৎকালীন শাকদের। সে কারণেই বিনা প্ররচনায়ে পুলিশের গুলিতে কলকাতার রাজপথে ১৩জন সহযোগীকে হারাতে হয়েছিল আমাদের।

শহিদের রক্ত ব্যর্থ হয়েনি। মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের সেদিনের আন্দোলনে স্বীকৃতি পেয়েছে মানুষের সচিত্র পরিচয়পত্রের দাবি। সারা জীবনের জন্য `একুশে জুলাই` সংগ্রামী মানুষের কাছে লড়াইয়ের প্রতীক হয়ে গিয়েছে।

এর পর মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় বাংলার মানুষকে একত্রিত করার জন্য মার্কসবাদী কমিউনিস্ট পার্টির অত্যাচারের বিরুদ্ধে ১৯৯৪ সালে ১২ জানুয়ারি, স্বামী বিবেকানন্দর জন্মদিনে কংগ্রেসের পতাকা কাঁধে নিয়ে শুরু করেছিলেন জনসংযোগ জাত্রা। অবিভক্ত মেদিনীপুর থেকে সেই যাত্রা সারা বাংলার যজুবসমাজকে উত্তাল করে তলে। টানা সাতমাস রাস্তায়ে রাস্তায়ে ঘুরে ১৮৭টি বিধানসভা অতিক্রম করেছিলেন। বাংলার মানুষকে সঙঘবদ্ধ করে নিরবচনে অংশ নেয়ার প্রেরণা জুগিয়েছিলেন। মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় সংগঠনের দায়িত্বে থাকার সুবাদে সারা রাজ্য ঘুরে উপলদ্ধি করেছিলেন বিভিন্ন লকআপে ১৭৮জন বন্দিকে পিটিয়ে হত্যা করেছে ক্ষমতাসীন বামফ্রন্ট সারকারের পুলিশ। সেই ১৭৮টি পরিবারকে চাকরি ও আর্থিক সাহায্যের দাবিতে কলকাতার রাজপথে ১৯৯৫ সালে ৬ অক্টোবর ধরনা অভিযান করেছিলেন। ২৩ দিনের মাথায়ে মমতার সেই আন্দোলন বাংলা ছেড়ে দিল্লি মসনদে আছড়ে পরেছিল।

তদানীন্তন দিল্লি কংরেসের সহায়তায় বাংলার চালু হয়েছিল রাজ্য মানবাধিকার কমিশন। তাই আজও বাংলার মানুষ প্রশাসনের কাছে বিচার না পেলে ছুটে যায়ে মানবাধিকার কমিশনের কাছে।

এহেন মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের  বহু আন্দলনের মধ্য দিয়ে মানুষ সঙঘগবদ্ধ হলেও কোনও এক অজানা কারণে নির্বাচনে ইতিবাচক প্রতিফলন ঘটেনি। মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় সেই সন্ধিক্ষ্ণণে দাঁড়িয়ে বলেছিলেন, `বাংলার মাটিতে মার্কসবাদী কমিউনিস্ট পার্টির বিরুদ্ধে লড়াই করতে গেলে কংরগ্রেসর পতাকা হাতে করে করা যাবে না।` তাই ১৯৯৮ সালে পয়লা জানুয়ারি বাংলার মাটিতে জান্ম দিয়েছিলেন নতুন রাজনৈতিক দল পাশ্চিমবঙ্গ তৃণমূল কংগ্রেস।

কংগ্রেসের পতাকা, তৃণমূল কংগ্রেসের প্রতীক – সামনে মমতা। শুরু হয়েছিল মার্কসবাদী কমিউনিস্ট পার্টির বিরুদ্ধে সংগ্রাম।

আজ আমরা ১৭ বছর অতিক্রম করেছি। বাংলার মাটিতে কোলের শিশুর মতো একটা রাজনৈতিক দলকে শৈশব থেকে কইশর, কৈশোর থেকে যৌবনে পৌঁছে দিয়েছেন মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়। গত ১৭ বছরে মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের  রাজনৈতিক ইতিহাস বাংলার মানুষকে নতুন করে বলার অবকাশ নেই। নিরলস ভঙ্গিতে তিনি চলেছেন বাংলার অত্যাচারিত মানুষের স্বার্থে একটার পর একটা আন্দোলন – সংগ্রামের মধ্য দিয়ে। কখনও তাঁর সভায় লাখো মানুষের সমাবেস, কখনও কিছুটা শ্লথ। কখনও দুটো আসন বেশি, কখনও দুটো আসন কম।

মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় নিরবচ্ছিন্নভাবে মানুষের জন্য চড়াই-উতরাই পেরিয়ে চলেছেন। মানুষের দৈ্নন্দিন জীবনের লড়াইয়ের অনুপ্রেরণা হয়ে উঠেছেন `মমতা`।
চলতে চলতে আমরা এলাম ২০০৬-এ। অনিচ্ছুক কৃষকদের জমি জোর করে অধিগ্রহণ করে শিল্পপতিদের হাতে তুলে দেওয়া যাবে না এই দাবি নিয়ে সিঙ্গুর ব্লকে শুরু হল আন্দলন। এই আন্দলনের পাশে দাড়িয়েছিলেন মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় । আন্দোলনের তীব্রতা এমন পর্যায়ে পৌঁছে দিয়েছিলেন তা আজও নাজিরবিহীন। কারণ, স্বাধীনতার ৬৮ বছর পরে দেশের সর্ববৃহৎ অহিংস গনতান্ত্রিক আন্দোলন সংঠিত করেছিলেন তাঁর ২৬ দিন অনশনের মধ্যে দিয়ে। সেই আন্দোলন শুধু বাংলার আলড়িত করেনি, আঁচড়ে পরেছিল দিল্লির দোরগোড়ায়। এই আন্দোলনের ভিতের উপর নির্ভর করেই ভারতের মাটিতে সুপ্রাচীন ১৮৯৪ সালে জমি অধিগ্রহণের আইন বদলে নতুন আইন প্রণয়ন হয়েছে। যদিও নীতিগতভাবে আমরা সেই আইনের সমর্থক নই।

পরবর্তী পর্যায়ে ২০০৭। নান্দিগ্রামের আন্দলনের পাশে থেকে মানুষের লড়াইয়ের রসদ জুগিয়েছেন। আমরা দেখেছি রিজওয়ানুর রহমানের ঘটনা। ধাপে ধাপে মানুষ মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের পাশে আরও সাংগঠিত হয়েছেন। বাংলার মানুষের মধ্যে আশা জেগেছে যে সংসদীয় গনতান্ত্রের রীতিনিতির মধ্য দিয়েই এ রাজ্যে মার্কসবাদী কমিউনিস্ট পার্টির অপশাসনের অবসান সম্ভব। তার প্রামাণ আরও স্পষ্ট হয়ে গিয়েছে ২০০৯ সালের লকসভা নির্বাচন ও ২০১০ সালে রাজ্যজুরে পুর নির্বাচনে।

পরবর্তী সময় আমরা দেখেছি সেই ঐতিহাসিক বিধানসভা নির্বাচন। তখন ইতিমধ্যেই বাংলার মাটিতে একটি পরিবর্তনের বাতাবরণ তৈরি হয়ে গিয়েছে। সেই পরিস্থিতিতে মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় বাংলার মানুষের কাছে আবেদন করেছিলেন, `পরিবর্তনের বাতাবরণকে যদি মানুষ সমর্থন করেন, তবে একটা সন্ত্রাসমুক্ত, উন্নয়ন্মুখী, যুবক-যুবতীর কর্মসংস্থানমুখী বাংলা গড়ে তুলতে পারি`। বাংলার সর্বধর্মের মানুষ,  সর্বজাতির মানুষ, সব পেশার মানুষ এক হয়ে মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের ডাকে সাড়া দিয়ে নতুন সরকার গঠন করলেন ২০১১ সালে ২০ মে।

অনেক অভিঞ্জতার বাঁক পেরিয়ে সরকারের বয়েস এখন প্রায়ে ৩৯ মাস। ইতিমধ্যেই এই সারকার মানুষের কাছে মা-মাটি-মানুষের সরকার হিসাবে প্রতিষ্ঠিত। নিরলস পরিশ্রমের মধ্য দিয়ে মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়  বাংলার মানুষের কাছে প্রতিশ্রুতিবদ্ধ সান্ত্রাসমুক্ত বাংলা, উন্নয়ন্মুখী বাংলা এবং যুবক যুবতীর কর্মসংস্থানমুখী বাংলা গড়তে। সন্ত্রাসমুক্ত বাংলা গড়তে। সন্ত্রাসমুক্ত বাংলা বলতে নতুন করে আর বলার অবকাশ নেই। সুদুর দার্জিলিং থেকে জঙ্গলমহলের মানুষ আজ পরিস্থিতি উপলব্ধি করতে পারছেন।

সর্বত্রই আজ শান্তির বাতাবরণ। উন্নয়নের কর্মযজ্ঞ নিয়ে এখন জেলায় জেলায় পৌঁছে যাচ্ছেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়  এবং বিভিন্ন প্রকল্পের মধ্য দিয়ে মানুষের পওনাকে মানুষের অধিকারে পরিণত করছেন। উন্নয়নের সুফল পাচ্ছেন মানুষ। তাই ছোট বড় সব নির্বাচনেই দুই হাথ ভরে আশীর্বাদ নিয়ে মানুষ তৃণমূল কংগ্রেসকে সমর্থন করেছে। বহু সরকারি প্রকল্পে মধ্য দিয়ে দৈনদ্নিন জীবনের সম্মানের সঙ্গে মাথা উঁচু করে বাঁচতে শিখছে মানুষ।

সেই প্রসঙ্গে ফিরে আসি। মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের সার্বিক কর্মযজ্ঞ, মানুষের সম্মানজনক   ভাবে বেঁচে থাকার সার্বিক প্রতিক্রিয়াটাকে একদল বিরোধী রাজনইতিক দল ও সংবাদমাধ্যমের একাংশ ধ্বংস করে দেওয়ার প্রচেষ্টা চালাচ্ছে। যে মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়  তাঁর ৪০ বছরের রাজনৈতিক জীবনে মানুষের পাশে দাঁড়িয়ে মার্কসবাদী কমিউনিস্ট পার্টিকে মোকাবিলা করতে করতে বারবার আক্রান্ত হয়েছেন। একাধিকবার মৃত্যুর মুখ থেকে আপনারদের আশীর্বাদ নিয়ে ফিরে এসেছেন। যে মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় নিজের জীবনকে শেষ করে দিয়ে না খেতে পাওয়া মানুষের পাশে দাঁড়িয়ে অনশন করেছেন। সেই মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের বিরুদ্ধে কুৎসা ও অপপ্রচার চলছে। মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়কে ব্যাক্তিগতভাবে কালিমালিপ্ত করে রাজনৈতিক ময়দান থেকে দূরে রাখার যে প্রচেষ্টা চলছে তা এক ভয়েঙ্কর পরিস্থিতি। এই পরিস্থিতির বিরুদ্ধে আমাদের রাজনৈতিক মোকাবিলা করতে হবে। রাজনৈতিকভাবে তৃণমূল কংগ্রেসকে ধ্বংস করার যে প্রতিক্রিয়া চলছে তা প্রতিরোধ করেতে হবে। কারণ, তৃণমূল কংগ্রেস শুধু একটা রাজনৈতিক দল নয়ে, তৃণমূল কংগ্রেস বাংলার কোটি কোটি মানুষের আস্থা ও ভরসার শক্ত জমি ।

আমরা ভীত-সন্ত্রস্ত নই। আমরা সিপিএমের সমস্ত রকম আক্রমণ দেখেছি। মোকাবিলা করেছি মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়কে সামনে রেখে। বাংলার ঘরে ঘরে মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় পৌঁছেছেন । এখনকার বিরোধী রাজনৈতিক নেতাদের মতো ধোপদুরস্ত হয়ে টিভি চ্যানেল কিংবা খবরের কাগজ ছবি ছাপিয়ে রাজনৈতিক জীবন তৈরি করেননি। এঁরা মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের সুদীর্ঘ লড়াইয়ের জীবন উপলদ্ধি করতে পারেননি । এঁদের বলব এই ভয়ঙ্কর খেলায় মাতবেন না। পশ্চিমবঙ্গের মানুষ ক্ষমা করবেন না।

There is no better time to celebrate Women Power than during Durga Puja. Here is my personal story. The first big female influence on my life has been that of my mother, Joyce. She loves me, like all mothers love their sons, but best of all she has taught me to tackle failure, to get up, dust myself and run on. In class eight I had been kept back at St Xavier's, Kolkata. I had moved mid-year from St Columba's, Delhi, as my father had been transferred from Delhi to Kolkata. The coursework and academic schedules didn't match and I found myself unable to keep up with my classmates.

Those excuses sound fine in hindsight. At the time it happened, and the report card came in, it was crushing. That afternoon my mother did something unusual. She took the family out to lunch. I remember we went to Waldorf, an old Chinese restaurant in Kolkata for what would have appeared to be a celebration. She told me the coming year would be easy enough for me because I had made myself familiar with my books anyway, and could expect to do much better than my classmates. “It'll be easy for you, son,” she said, “don't worry.”

There was a mother's indulgence in that conversation but also a steely will. She was motivating me to do much better the following year, had more or less told me I had the tools and the experience to do well and indicated that success was obvious if I worked honestly for it, and that I would have no excuses in twelve months. Best of all, It was all conveyed with a smile and in an easy manner, over a family lunch.

The second big female influence is that of my wife, Tonuca. From her I've learnt the skill of prioritising, of determination and of commitment. We have a long-distance marriage. She is a doctor and a mother in New York, caring for her daughters from a previous marriage. She is determined to make our marriage work and her career work, to do her duty to her children and find time for companionship with her husband. It's not easy, but to Tonuca it's a no-brainer – it has to be done and done smoothly. She needs to be in New York till her girls go to college in 2017; she owes them that.

So we meet every eight weeks, making trips to each other's cities, chalking up – and using – frequent-flyer miles, and appreciating each other that much more, I would imagine, than if we woke up in the same house 365 days a year. To juggle three different commitments – as a mother, a wife and a doctor – and to make a mark in all three, when de-prioritising one or even two would have been so tempting, is a hallmark of success. Tonuca has taught me a lot.

The third big female influence is that of my daughter, Aanya. She has the uncomplicated honesty and the brutal frankness of youth. She is my worst, or best, critic. If I'm not looking good on stage or the way I delivered my speech in Parliament had some shortcomings, she will tell me. If my clothes sense sometimes fails me, Aanya lets me know. In her own way, she keeps me grounded and I have started valuing her opinion. Realizing her opinion matters to me, she has, showing a maturity beyond her years, begun to offer it with particular thought and integrity. She also keeps me contemporary, I often joke, by introducing me to
new trends in music.

The fourth big female influence in my life was that of my former wife, Rila Banerjee. In 1991, I left a secure job because an entrepreneurial bug bit me. She encouraged me to believe in the idea, when it was only an idea. Risk-taking is important for success. After all, even Edmund Hillary named his autobiography Nothing Venture, Nothing Win! The final female influence in my life is that of Mamata Banerjee, Chief Minister of West Bengal. She is the older sister I never had, a friend, mentor, guide and leader. From her, I imbibed the merits of conviction and resilience. When she began her independent political career in the mid-1990s, nobody gave her a ghost of a chance. Friends, each of the six influences – five of them women – from my life I have written about in the preceding paragraphs has taught me something different. Each of them represents a different set of qualities. Those qualities come together in an intricate matrix – a matrix that spells success.

অসুরকুল তাদের নানান কূটকৌশলে নানান নিচ ও হীন পথে এবং ঘৃণ্য উপায়ে দেবলোক হস্তগত করে। আপাত মিষ্টিমধুর কথার আড়ালে লুকনো তীব্র হলাহলে দেবলোক তার স্বাভাবিক সৌন্দর্য হারিয়ে ম্লান-ম্রিয়মাণ। স্বর্গীয় শান্তি হয়ে উঠেছে নেহাতই অতীতের ইতিহাস।

বিষাদগ্রস্ত সুরলোকে সে প্রাণের মূর্ছনা আর নেই। যে অদ্ভুত আলোর ছটায় দেবলোক উদ্ভাসিত হত সে আলো আজ ম্লান। এক কথায় স্বর্গের সৌরভ যেন স্মৃতিকথায় বর্যবতি হয়েছে। সুরবালারা আর নির্ভয়ে রাস্তায় বের হতে পারে না। সুরললনারা যেন সদাই আতঙ্কগ্রস্ত। উন্মত্ত অসুরের রূঢ় ভৈরবে মত্ত মাতঙ্গের উন্মাদ নৃত্যে শিল্প-সাহিত্যের আঙিনা লণ্ডভণ্ড হয়েছে।

সমস্ত দেবলোকের আকুল প্রার্থনায় আবির্ভূতা হলেন দেবী-দুর্গতিনাশিনী। দশপ্রহরণধারিণী দেবী দুর্গা বরাভয় দিলেন সঙ্কটগ্রস্ত দেবলোককে। সমস্ত একক শক্তিতে অমিত পরাক্রমশালী প্রায় অজেয় এই অসুরকুলের বিরুদ্ধে লড়াই।

দেবী দুর্গার আবির্ভাবের সাথে সাথেই দেবলোকে এক অভূতপূর্ব আশা আকাঙ্ক্ষা এবং উন্মাদনার সৃষ্টি হল- বিশ্বচরাচর উদ্বেলিত হল। সর্বত্রই এক কি হয় কি হয় ভাব। একদিকে গোটা অসুর সমাজ-দৈত্য, দানব আর রাক্ষসকুল এবং অপরদিকে দশপ্রহরণধারিণী দেবী দুর্গা- এক এবং অদ্বিতীয়া- অজেয় এবং অক্ষয়। ভীষণ সে যুদ্ধে অসুরকুল পরাস্ত হল। কিন্তু তাদের সাঙ্গ-পাঙ্গরা আশ্রয় নিল বিভিন্ন অন্ধকার গহ্বরে, সুযোগ বুঝে চোরাগোপ্তা আক্রমণের আশায়।

সাতাত্তর সালের কোন এক কুক্ষণে বামফ্রন্ট সরকার প্রতিষ্ঠিত হল নানান ছলচাতুরি নানান অপপ্রচার আর মিথ্যাচারের মাধ্যমে-নানান ঘৃণ্য উপায় অবলম্বনে।

অন্ধকারের জীব স্বাভাবিকভাবেই আলোকে ভয় পায়-আলো তাদের কাছে অসহ্য। তাই তারা প্রথম আক্রমণটা হানল শিক্ষা এবং সংস্কৃতির উপর। পরীক্ষায় পাস-ফেল প্রথা তুলে দেওয়া হল, বৃত্তি পরীক্ষা বন্ধ করা হল- `মাতৃভাষা মাতৃদুগ্ধ` এই স্লোগানের আড়ালে প্রাথমিকে ইংরাজি ভাষাকে বিদায় দেওয়া হল। কলেজস্তরে ভাষা শিক্ষার গুরুত্ব এবং এমনকী মাতৃভাষার গুরুত্বও হ্রাস করা হল। `হোপ ৮৬`-এর আদলে গ্রামে গ্রামে চটুল গানের আসরে শিল্প-সংস্কৃতির অন্তর্জলি যাত্রা সুনিশ্চিত করা হল। এরই সঙ্গে সঙ্গে সমাজে বিবেকবান মানুষদের প্রতিবাদী মানুষদের ভয়-ভীতি প্রদর্শনের মাধ্যমে চুপ করিয়ে দেওয়া হল। প্রয়োজনে খুন-জখমেও তারা পিছপা নয়। এই অসুরকুলের হাতে নতুন অস্ত্র গণধর্ষণ। শিল্প সাহিত্য সংবাদ মাধ্যম প্রভৃতিরও একচেটিয়া অধিকার কুক্ষিগত করে নিল তারা, মত প্রকাশের স্বাধীনতা হরণ হল। গণতন্ত্রের প্রাথমিক শর্ত- মত প্রকাশের স্বাধীনতা তারা অস্বীকার করল- গণতন্ত্রের কণ্ঠরোধ করা হল। শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠানগুলো হল তাদের ঘৃণ্য দলবাহীর আখড়া।

বিদ্যুৎ গতিতে বিদ্যুতের দাম বৃদ্ধি, বাসভাড়া বৃদ্ধি আর নিত্যপ্রয়জনীয় জিনিসের আকাশছোঁয়া মূল্য বৃদ্ধিতে সাধারণ মানুষের যখন প্রাণান্তকর অবস্থা তখন চারিদিকে শুরু হল অত্যাচারিতা নারীদের করুন আর্তনাদ। জমি-হাঙরেরা চারিদিকে ঘুরে বেরাচ্ছে চাষের জমি গ্রাস করার জন্য। নাগিনীর বিষাক্ত নিঃশাসে গোটা বাংলা জর্জরিত। প্রেত-উল্লাসে ঘৃণ্য শ্বাপদেরা চারিদিকে দাপিয়ে বাড়াচ্ছে। এরকম এক অভূতপূর্ব পরিস্থিতিতে মানুষ প্রার্থনা জানাচ্ছে পরিত্রাণ পাওয়ার জন্য-এই কাল বিপদ থেকে উদ্ধারের জন্য, মৃত্যুর হাহাকার থেকে জীবনের ছন্দে ফেরার জন্য।

যদা যদা হি ধর্ম্মস্য গ্লানির্ভবতি ভারত।
অভ্যুত্থানমঅধর্ম্মস্য তদাত্মানং সৃজাম্যহম।।
পরিত্রাণায় সাধুনাং বিনাশায় চ দুষ্কৃতাম।
ধর্ম্মসংস্থাপনার্থায় সম্ভবামি যুগে যুগে।।

মানুষ আকুলভাবে উন্মুখ হয়ে রয়েছে দুষ্টের দমন, শিষ্টের পালন-সেই ঐশী শক্তির আবির্ভাবের তথা উত্থানের আশায়। কোটি মানুষের প্রাণের আবেগের-প্রাণের আকুতিতেই আবির্ভাব মমতা ব্যানার্জির। শ্রীমতি মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়- নেহাতই একটা নাম নয় এ আসলে লক্ষ কোটি মানুষের আশা আকাঙ্ক্ষা এবং প্রাণের আবেগের এক বাস্তব রূপ।

মমতাময়ী মমতার মধ্যেই মম অর্থাৎ আমার, মত অর্থাৎ ইচ্ছাটা তথা আকাঙ্ক্ষা বা মতামত প্রতিভাত হয়। তাই মমতা হলেন প্রতিটি সাধারণ মানুষের আশা-আকাঙ্খা এবং মতামতের প্রতীক। অন্ধকারের জীবেদের মমতাকে চিনতে এতটুকু দেরি হয়নি। তাই তার প্রাণনাশের চেষ্টায় তারা কসুর করেনি।কিন্তু প্রতিবারেই তাদের সেই অপচেষ্টা ব্যর্থ হয়েছে।

মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় প্রথমেই যেটা করলেন সেটা হল পাহাড় এবং জঙ্গলমহলকে শান্ত করা। উভয় ক্ষেত্রেই তিনি শতকরা ১০০ ভাগ সফল। এরপর তার পদক্ষেপ স্বাস্থ্য এবং কর্মসংস্থান। স্বাস্থ্যক্ষেত্রের চরম বেহাল অবস্থার মোড় ঘোরাতে তিনি ব্যক্তিগতভাবে নজর দিলেন। অবস্থা এখন আগের থেকে অনেক উন্নত হয়েছে। এ ছাড়া কন্যাশ্রী, যুবশ্রী, কমদামে ঔষধ বিক্রয় কেন্দ্র, শিশুসাথী প্রকল্প সারা দেশে মডেল। প্রতি ব্লকে কৃষক বাজার, জল ধরো জল ভরো, এমপ্লয়মেন্ট বাঙ্ক প্রকল্প গ্রহণ করলেন। নারীক্ষমতায়নে দৃঢ় পদক্ষেপ নিলেন পঞ্চায়েত আইনের সংশোধন ঘটিয়ে এক তৃতীয়াংশ মহিলা আসন সংরক্ষিত করে। কিন্তু এখনও মানুষের বহু চাওয়া-পাওয়া বাকি। অশুভ শক্তির দোসর সুযোগ সন্ধানীরা ওৎ পেতে আছে তাদের থাবা বিস্তারের আশায়।

এ পুণ্য শারদ প্রভাতে একটাই প্রার্থনা, বাংলা তার স্বমহিমায় বিরাজ করুক। বাংলা হোক বিশ্ববাংলা। এ আশা পূর্ণ হোক। চারিদিকে আনন্দধারা ঝরে পড়ুক।
