Sir, when the debate on demonetisation was happening between November 16 and December 16, 2016, 15-16 Opposition parties were meeting every day. There was a joint effort to highlight the pain of the people. There were deaths caused; as of now 135 people have died. There were issues for the economy, and people were suffering.

If you check the records of the Rajya Sabha, on November 24, at 2.40 PM, it was mentioned in the speech that we can oppose demonetisation in our democratic ways because we had different views – the Opposition had one view and the Government had another view. But because we are opposing demonetisation that cannot be an excuse to send your agencies after us and to scare us.

And Sir, exactly what we feared has happened. Lok Sabha leader of Trinamool Congress – with 34 and 12, that is, 46 MPs – was called and arrested January 3, 2017. Sir, within one month of speaking this happened. Today it has happened to Trinamool Congress. Tomorrow it can happen to any member of any of the 15 Opposition parties.

Sir, this is a very serious issue. We can have political differences. Mamata Banerjee was the first person to flag demonetisation, one and a half hours after the Hon’ble Prime Minister made his announcement on November 8, 2016; not just Trinamool Congress, all opposition parties opposed it.

Why is this political vendetta happening? What are we coming to, Sir? 135 people died, but not even a word from this Government.

When we spoke, the Hon’ble Prime Minister was sitting there, the Leader of the House was sitting there; and we made it very clear – do not do political vendetta. The more you do political vendetta, the more we will firm our resolve to fight you on demonetisation.

Trinamool today slammed the Centre for indulging in politics of vendetta and stifling the voice of the Opposition. The party said said that political vendetta will only firm the resolve the Centre on demonetisation.

Trinamool had submitted a Notice under Rule 267 in Rajya Sabha today to suspend the business of the House at 11 AM and 12 noon in order to discuss the issue. You can read the full Notice here.

Speaking on behalf of the party, Leader of the Parliamentary Party in Rajya Sabha, Derek O’Brien said: “On 24 November, 2016, we mentioned that political vendetta cannot be used against the Opposition for protesting against demonetisation. Exactly what we feared has happened. Lok Sabha leader of Trinamool Congress was called and arrested January 3.”

He added that what has happened to Trinamool today can happen to any other party in the future. He maintained that in a democracy one can have political differences and political vendetta should not be done.

Chief Whip of the party in Rajya Sabha, Sukhendu Sekhar Roy slammed the Centre for the ‘witch hunt’ against Trinamool. All Trinamool MPs in the Upper House walked out in protest against political vendetta and witch hunt by the Centre.

কেন্দ্রের রাজনৈতিক প্রতিহিংসা নোট বাতিলের বিরুদ্ধে আমাদের লড়াইকে আরও শক্ত করবেঃ রাজ্যসভায় তৃনমূল

আজ তৃণমূল কংগ্রেস সংসদে কেন্দ্রীয় সরকারের প্রতিহিংসাপরায়ন রাজনীতিতে মদত দেওয়া ও বিরোধীদের কণ্ঠস্বর রোধ করার প্রচেষ্টার কড়া সমালোচনা করে।
রাজ্যসভায় আজ তৃনমূল ২৬৭ নম্বর নিয়মে নোটিশ দেয় যাতে বেলা ১১টা ও ১২টায় সংসদের সব কাজ মুলতুবি করে রাজনৈতিক প্রতিহিংসার বিষয়ে আলোচনা করা হয়।
তৃণমূল কংগ্রেসের তরফ থেকে রাজ্যসভার পরিষদীয় দলনেতা ডেরেক ও’ব্রায়েন বলেন, “আমরা গত ২৪সে নভেম্বর উল্লেখ করেছিলাম নোটবাতিলের বিরুদ্ধে যারা প্রতিবাদ করছে তাদের বিরুদ্ধে রাজনৈতিক প্রতিহিংসা পরায়ণ আচরণ যেন করা না হয়। আমরা যা আশঙ্কা করেছিলাম, ঠিক তাই হল। গত ৩রা জানুয়ারি তৃনমূল কংগ্রেসের লোকসভার দলনেতাকে তলব করে গ্রেফতার করা হয়।”
তিনি আরও বলেন, আজ তৃনমূলের বিরুদ্ধে বিরুদ্ধে প্রতিহিংসা পরায়ণ রাজনীতি করা হচ্ছে, কাল অন্য যে কোনও রাজনৈতিক দলের সঙ্গেও  করা হতে পারে। গণতন্ত্রে রাজনৈতিক মতভেদ থাকতেই পারে কিন্তু তার জন্য রাজনৈতিক প্রতিহিংসা প্রদর্শন করা উচিত নয়।”
রাজ্যসভায় দলের মুখ্যসচেতক সুখেন্দু শেখর রায় কেন্দ্রীয় সরকারের এই প্রতিহিংসাপরায়ন রাজনীতির তীব্র নিন্দা করেন। রাজ্যসভার সকল তৃনমূল সাংসদ কেন্দ্রীয় সরকারের বিরোধিতায় ‘ওয়াক আউট’ করেন।

Trinamool Congress today alleged that BJP collected billions of rupees from “unknown sources” and is now preaching about electoral reforms.

Party’s chief national spokesperson Derek O’Brien also said the Narendra Modi government’s decision to cap donations to political parties at Rs 2,000 will not solve anything. “You want electoral reforms & you bring down the minimum figure from 20,000 rupees to 2000. Won’t solve anything. Who you kidding?” he tweeted.

“And look who is preaching about electoral reforms? The party that has already picked up billions from “unknown sources,” the party’s leader in Rajya Sabha said.

On the Railway Budget, he said the “grand design” to merge it with the General Budget turned out to be a damp squib. “This will damage the very core of the transport system,” he said.

রাজনৈতিক দলের নগদ অনুদানের ঊর্ধ্বসীমা ২০ হাজার টাকা থেকে কমিয়ে ২ হাজার টাকা করার যে সিদ্ধান্ত কাল অর্থমন্ত্রী বাজেটে ঘোষণা করলেন, তাকে কটাক্ষ করলো তৃনমূল কংগ্রেস।

তৃনমূল কংগ্রেস এর পক্ষ থেকে জাতীয় মুখপাত্র ডেরেক ও’ব্রায়েন বলেন সরকারের এই সিদ্ধান্তে কোনও সমাধান হবে না। তিনি টুইট করে বলেন, “আপনারা নির্বাচনী সংস্কার চান, তাই নগদ অনুদানের সীমা ২০ হাজার থেকে কমিয়ে ২ হাজার করেছেন। কিন্তু, এতে কিছু সমাধান হবে না। কাদের বোকা বানাচ্ছেন?”

ডেরেক, যিনি রাজ্যসভায় তৃণমূলের পরিষদীয় দলনেতা, বলেন, “যে দল (বিজেপি) ‘অজানা সুত্র’ থেকে কোটি কোটি টাকা পেয়েছে তারা এখন ‘নির্বাচনী সংস্কারের’ বানী শোনাচ্ছে”।

সাধারণ বাজেটের সঙ্গে রেল বাজেটের সংযুক্তিকরণকেও কটাক্ষ করেন তিনি। বলেন, সরকরের ‘মহান পরিকল্পনা’ পুরো মাঠে মারা গেল। এই পদক্ষেপের ফলে পরিবহণ ক্ষেত্রের ক্ষতি হবে।”

Statement by All India Trinamool Congress Parliamentary Party:

Trinamool MPs will not be present in Parliament on the first two days of the Budget Session in protest against demonetisation which was implemented without taking Parliament into confidence, and restrictions on withdrawal limits from bank accounts which are still in force.

In the ensuing session, Trinamool will, among other issues, raise the issue of the illegal arrest of its Lok Sabha leader and another MP which is a clear case of political vendetta by the ruling party at the Centre by misusing CBI and abusing its power.

সংসদকে না জানিয়ে কেন্দ্রীয় সরকার নোট বাতিলের সিদ্ধান্ত নেয়। ব্যাঙ্ক থেকে টাকা তোলার বিধি নিষেধও এখনোও তোলা হয়নি। এর প্রতিবাদে বাজেট অধিবেশনের প্রথম দু’দিন সংসদে উপস্থিত থাকবে না তৃণমূলের কোনও সাংসদ।

नोटबंदी के मुद्दे पे संसद को विश्वास में नहीं लेने के कारण और cash withdrawal की सीमा नहीं हटाने के विरोध में , बजट सत्र के पहले दो दिनों में तृणमूल के कोई भी सांसद Parliament में मौजूद नहीं रहेंगे।

Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee initiated Khadya Sathi Dibas and Police Investiture Ceremony today at a function on Red Road.

In this colourful programme, beneficiaries from across state who have received helps from departments like Food & Supplies, Health & Family Welfare, Women & Child Development & Social Welfare, Backward Classes Welfare, Forest, Sports, I&CA’s Development schemes marched at the event.

Tableaux of departments including like Food & Supplies, Health & Family Welfare, Women & Child Development & Social Welfare, Backward Classes Welfare, Forest, Sports, I&CA were attractions of today’s event. The Bengal Chief Minister also decorated State Police officers for their courage and gallantry on the line of duty.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that the development in Bengal is a model for the whole world. She said: “Over 8 crore people are getting rice at Rs 2/kilo in Bengal. Over 90% people in the State have got some direct govt benefit. The infant mortality rate of Bengal has fallen from 32 to 26 out of 1000 while the national average increased from 33 to 37. We have set up 307 SNSUs, 60 SNCUs, 13 Mother and Child Hubs, many HDUs. Institutional delivery is a major socio-economic parameter. It has increased from 65% to 90% in 5 years.”

The CM added: “We want the young generation of Bengal to stand on their own feet. It is our responsibility to highlight the talent of the State. We have ensured employment for contractual workers, ICDS/Asha workers. We have started health insurance scheme ‘Swasthya Sathi’ for 3 crore people. Healthcare is free at govt hospitals. We have initiated a new scheme ‘Sabuj Shree’ under which saplings will be given to families of all newborns.”

Despite financial problems, we are working for the people and will continue to do so in the future, Mamata Banerjee added.

 

 

বাংলার উন্নয়নের কর্মসূচি বিশ্বের কাছে একটি মডেল: মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়

আজ রেড রোডে খাদ্য সাথী দিবস ও পুলিশ অলঙ্করণ দিবসের শুভ সূচনা করলেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়। সাহসিকতার জন্য এদিন পশ্চিমবঙ্গ পুলিশের অলংকরণও করেন তিনি।

এই অনুষ্ঠানে খাদ্য ও সরবরাহ, স্বাস্থ্য ও পরিবার কল্যাণ, পরিবহন, নারী ও শিশু উন্নয়ন এবং সমাজ কল্যাণ, অনগ্রসর শ্রেণি কল্যাণ, বন, ক্রীড়া, তথ্য ও সংস্কৃতি বিভাগের উন্নয়নমূলক প্রকল্পগুলির উপভোক্তাদের শোভাযাত্রা এবং সুকন্যা প্রকল্পের ছাত্রীদের আত্মরক্ষার কলা-কৌশল প্রদর্শিত হয়।

অনুষ্ঠানে বক্তব্য রাখতে গিয়ে মুখ্যমন্ত্রী বলেন, “রাজ্য সরকারের খাদ্য সাথী প্রকল্পের আওতায় বাংলার ৮ কোটি মানুষ ২ টাকা কেজি দরে চাল পাচ্ছেন।  এছাড়া ৯০% মানুষ আজ সরাসরি সরকারি পরিষেবা পাচ্ছেন। অস্থায়ী কর্মী, আই সি ডি এস/ আশার কর্মীদের চাকরি সুনিশ্চিত করেছে রাজ্য সরকার। স্বাস্ত্য সাথী প্রকল্পের আওতায় ৩ কোটি মানুষ সরকারি হাসপাতালে বিনামূল্যে চিকিৎসা পাচ্ছেন। ‘সবুজ শ্রী’ নতুন প্রকল্প চালু হয়েছে এর মাধ্যমে নবজাতকদের নামে একটি করে চারা গাছ দেওয়া হবে তাদের পরিবারের হাতে। ভবিষ্যৎ প্রজন্ম যাতে নিজের পায়ে দাঁড়াতে পারে সেজন্য রাজ্য সরকার সব রকম্ভাবে সচেষ্ট। রাজ্যের প্রতিভা তুলে ধরা আমাদের কর্তব্য”। 

মুখ্যমন্ত্রী জানান, “লোক প্রসার প্রকল্পের আওতায় ৮০ হাজার লোকশিল্পী আর্থিক সহায়তা পাচ্ছেন। আজ বাঙ্গুর সুপার স্পেশালিটি হাসপাতালের উদ্বোধন হল। অনেক মাদার ও চাইল্ড হাব তৈরি করা হচ্ছে। শিশু মৃত্যুর হার রাজ্যে হাজারে ৩২ থেকে কমে হয়েছে ২৬। ৩০৭ টি এস এন এস ইউ, ৬০টি এস এন সি ইউ, ১৩টি মাদার ও চাইল্ড হাব, অনেক এইচ ডি ইউ তৈরি হয়েছে। ইনস্টিটিউশনাল ডেলিভারি বিকাশের একটি মাপকাঠি। ৫ বছরে এর হার ৬৫% থেকে বৃদ্ধি পেয়ে ৯০% হয়েছে। সেফ ড্রাইভ সেভ লাইফ এর মাধ্যমে মানুষের মধ্যে সচেতনতা তৈরি করা হয়েছে। মেয়েদের আত্মরক্ষার প্রশিক্ষণ দেওয়া হচ্ছে সুকন্যা প্রকল্পের মাধ্যমে”।

Bengal government’s theme for the tableau for this year’s Republic Day Parade in New Delhi was Sharod Utsav. The theme showcased how people from all communities in Bengal participate and rejoice during the biggest festival of the state, Durga Puja.

There was an idol of Goddesses Durga at one end of the tableau and artists from different areas starting from the hills to Sunderbans performing their traditional forms of dances to symbolise how each and everyone in the state turns to be the part of Sharod Utsav.

All the artists, who will be performing in the parade, are receiving the financial assistance of the state government under Lok Prashar Scheme. The state government provides financial assistance to 80,000 folk artists in the state that helped to revive many art forms which would have gone extinct.

Women dhakis mainly from North 24-Parganas played dhaks on the tableau. The rhythmic beat of dhaks is an integral part of Durga Puja. Traditional dancers from Darjeeling and folk dancers from Midnapore also performed on the tableau.

Bengal was awarded twice earlier for the being the best tableau in the Republic Day Parade. In 2014, the tableau that was based on the Chhau Dance of the state had won the prize and again in 2016, the state’s tableau was awarded the first prize.

 

দিল্লির প্রজাতন্ত্র দিবস কুচকাওয়াজে বাংলার থিম শারদ উ९সব

এবছর দিল্লির প্রজাতন্ত্র দিবসের প্যারেডে পশ্চিমবঙ্গের থিম ছিল শারদ উ९সব। দুর্গা পুজোয় সব সম্প্রদায়ের মানুষ অংশগ্রহণ করে তাই এবছর এই উ९সবকে থিম করা হয়েছে।

ট্যাবলোর শেষে ছিল একটি দুর্গা প্রতিমা আর সামনে পারফর্ম করেন বাংলার লোকশিল্পীরা।

যেসকল লোকশিল্পীরা প্যারেডে অংশগ্রহণ করেন তারা রাজ্য সরকারের লোকপ্রসার প্রকল্পের আওতায় আর্থিক সহায়তা পান। এই প্রকল্পের আওতায় রাজ্য সরকার প্রায় ৮০০০০ হাজার শিল্পীকে আর্থিক সহায়তা প্রদানের পাশাপাশি তাদের সরকারি অনুষ্ঠানে পারফর্ম করার সুযোগও করে দেন।

এই ট্যাবলোতে উত্তর ২৪ পরগনা জেলার মহিলা ঢাকিরা অংশগ্রহণ করেন। দার্জিলিঙ ও পশ্চিম মেদিনীপুর সহ বিভিন্ন জেলার লোক শিল্পীরাও এখানে অংশগ্রহণ করেন।

এর আগে গত দুবার ২০১৪ ও ২০১৬ সালে প্রজাতন্ত্র দিবসে বাংলার ট্যাবলো পুরস্কার পেয়েছে। ২০১৪ সালে বাংলার থিম হয়েছিল ছৌ নাচ। ২০১৬ সালে বাংলার ট্যাবলো প্রথম পুরস্কার পেয়েছিল, থিম ছিল ‘বাংলার বাউল’।

The International Kolkata Book Fair, the largest attended Book Fair in the world, is being held at Milan Mela, Kolkata, from January 25th, 2017 – February 5th, 2017, supported by the West Bengal Government.

The Focal Theme being Costa Rica this year, eminent Costa Rican litterateur Roxana Pinto López inaugurated this year’s edition.

With an average record footfall of 2.5 million year on year, International Kolkata Book fair is truly International in the sense of the term, as book lovers, authors, and publishers from across the globe look forward to participate, present, and share their literary skills with each other and any and everyone who is a patron of embellished letters.

 

শুরু হল ৪১তম আন্তর্জাতিক কলকাতা পুস্তক মেলা

বইপ্রেমী বাঙ্গালির সারা বছরের অন্যতম মুখ্য আকর্ষণ বইমেলা। আজ থেকে মিলন মেলা প্রাঙ্গনে শুরু হল ৪১তম কলকাতা পুস্তক মেলা।

অন্যান্য বছরের মতো এবছরও বেশ কিছু পুস্তকের ভাণ্ডার নিয়ে পাঠকদের কাছে উপস্থিত থাকবেন স্বয়ং মুখ্যমন্ত্রী নিজেই। নোটবাতিলের ফলে মানুষের চরম দুর্গতির বিরুদ্ধে তিনি লিখেছেন “Note কথা’, ২০০৬ থেকে চলতে থাকা সিঙ্গুর আন্দোলন থেকে ৩১শে আগস্ট ঐতিহাসিক সিঙ্গুর রায়ের কথা লিখেছেন তার লেখা “সিঙ্গুর জয়ী” বইটিতে। কুতসার বিরুদ্ধে মানুষের রায়ে দ্বিতীয়বার সরকার গঠনের কথা আছে তার “মানুষের জয় ২০১৬” বইটিতে, সঙ্গে থাকছে একগুচ্ছ কবিতা সম্বলিত “ব্যাক্তিত্ব” নামক বইটি। এছাড়া আরও দুটি কবিতার বই প্রকাশিত হবে ‘নামাঞ্জলি- ২’ এবং ‘খুশবু’ (উর্দু ভাষার)।

এবারের বইমেলার থিম ‘কোস্তারিকা’। উদ্বোধনী অনুষ্ঠানে উপস্থিত ছিলেন বিশিষ্ট কোস্তারিকান সাহিত্যিক রোক্সানা পিন্তো লোপেজ। মেলা চলবে আগামী ৫ই ফেব্রুয়ারি পর্যন্ত।

The country’s second largest mobile operator Vodafone plans to invest Rs 3,000 crore over the next three years in capacity augmentation and new business initiatives in Bengal. The Memorandum of Understanding to this effect was signed on the sidelines of Bengal Global Business Summit 2017.

Vodafone is already one of the largest MNC investors in the state and has invested over Rs 8,400 crore, including Rs 200 crore in first half of FY17 towards upgrading its network.

A Vodaphone statement said -At Vodafone, we are enthused with government’s vision of creating Bengal a business hub. We are pleased to announce our investment plans in the state.

 

বাংলায় ৩০০০ কোটি টাকার বিনিয়োগ ভোডাফোনের

আগামী ৩ বছরে বাংলায় বিনিয়োগ করতে আগ্রহী দেশের দ্বিতীয় বৃহত্তম মোবাইল অপারেটর সংস্থা ভোডাফোন। বিশ্ব বঙ্গ বাণিজ্য সম্মেলন ২০১৭-য় এই চুক্তিতে একটি মউ সাক্ষরিত হয়েছে।

ইতিমধ্যেই ভোডাফোন বহুজাতিক বিনিয়োগ সংস্থাগুলির মধ্যে একটি বৃহত্তম সংস্থা। ইতিমধ্যেই তারা ৮৪০০ কোটি টাকা বিনিয়োগ করেছে। এর আগে প্রথম ধাপে তারা ২০০ কোটি টাকা বিনিয়োগ করেছিল তাদের নেটওয়ার্ক আপগ্রেডের জন্য।

ভোডাফোনের একটি বিবৃতি অনুযায়ী, রাজ্য সরকার বাংলায় বিজনেস হাব তৈরি করতে চলেছে, আমরা এই কাজে উৎসাহী। বাংলায় বিনিয়োগ করতে আমরা আগ্রহী।

The negative image which was hampering in bringing in industry here has gone under the leadership of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The ASSOCHAM President was one of the invited industry guests at the third edition of Bengal Global Business Summit.

He felt that the Bengal government’s focus on MSME is really a great step. MSME will garner huge revenue and profit. It will generate employment in large scale, which big industry could not do at a time.

The Bengal government is ready to give away land, they are industry friendly and the state is bringing reforms to do business easily. The investments will follow the state now, he said.

তিনি বলেন, “অতীতে এরাজ্যের যে শিল্পবিরুপ ভাবমূর্তি ছিল মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের নেতৃত্বে তা দূর হয়েছে, এখন সময় এসেছে এগিয়ে চলার।”

তিনি আরও বলেন, ক্ষুদ্র, মাঝারি ও কুটির শিল্পের ওপর জোর দেওয়া খুব ভালো পদক্ষেপ। কারণ ক্ষুদ্র, মাঝারি ও কুটির শিল্প থেকে প্রচুর লাভ হয় ও এর ফলে খুব বেশি পরিমান কর্মসংস্থান হয় যা ভারি শিল্পেও হয় না।

তিনি এও বলেন যে রাজ্য সরকার শিল্পবান্ধব এবং নানা সংস্কারের মাধ্যমে রাজ্যে বিনিয়োগের পথ প্রশস্ত করে দিয়েছে।

Bengal Tourism’s new ad is winning the internet with its ‘sweetness’ and rightly so. Ever since the ad released on Friday, it has crossed a million views and been shared by more than 30, 000 people on Facebook alone. The video is through a foreigner’s eyes who embarks on a journey through Bengal and soaks in the culture, the food and the ambience of the state.

From the busy college streets and yellow cabs in Kolkata, to devouring bhetki paturis, to visiting architecturally rich temples of Bishnupur, to the haunting music of the Bauls, to Rabidra Sangeet- the video captures all things beautiful about the state.

From the mystic valleys in Darjeeling, to the breathtaking sea beach of Mandarmani, the video is a visual delight. The video ends with Shah Rukh Khan, the state’s brand ambassador, crooning Tagore’s song. People have been praising the ad on social media, calling it a fitting tribute to the state.
