Trinamool Chairperson Mamata Banerjee addresses a protest rally at Panihati in North 24 Parganas
Trinamool Chairperson Mamata Banerjee issued a slogan for the forthcoming general election: no third UPA government. At a rally at Panihati in North 24 Parganas on Saturday, she exhorted regional parties to come together and give the country a stable government.
“I want Paribartan in Delhi. Here`s my slogan: No third UPA. Let`s get a government. All the regional parties are required. Let many come together and give us a stable government,“ Ms. Banerjee said.
Ms. Banerjee said that accounts of Trinamool Congress were scrutinized by the Income Tax authorities but not of other political parties.
She also said that the Centre wanted to deprive the state economically, adding that conspiracies began after the Trinamool Congress quit the UPA government.
Alleging that Congress was trying to divide regional parties, the Trinamool Chairperson said, “Those spelling disaster for the country are toying with the idea of dividing regional parties. People of the country are saying there were UPA-I and UPA-II but there will be no UPA-III.“
She said no amount of browbeating would be able to cow her down. “The more you browbeat me, the more I will be vocal. No use threatening me with the CBI,“ she said.
She pointed out that the chit fund companies flourished during the 80s and their failure to put up a strict law against these fraud companies, she said, “Once the Bill which we have passed is enacted, the government would confiscate the property of the chit fund companies and refund the investors.“ She said, `Please do not invest in these companies. Withdraw your money and if they refuse to refund, put in a complaint against them.`
Addressing his party members, she said, “No one will go to anyone for collecting subscription. If anyone does and if anyone gives, they themselves will be responsible for that,“ albeit adding that there were people who loved the TMC and provided them with festoons, hoardings and loudspeakers during election campaign.
She criticized the Election Commission for announcing the date for Howrah Lok Sabha bypoll following the death of Trinamool MP Ambica Banerjee. “They didn`t even wait for his shradh ceremony. What is the hurry? Is it only because they want to see the Trinamool defeated? It`s not going to happen,“ she said.
