Riot-culture of Danga Gurus will not work in Bengal: Mamata Banerjee at Kalyani
Trinamool Chairperson Ms Mamata Banerjee addressed a meeting of party workers at Kalyani today.
She began her district tours from November 5, 2014 in order to interact and guide the district leaders and party workers in the right direction.
Trinamool Chairperson not only gave direction for the future to the district units, but also shared strategies to counter the smear campaign launched by the Opposition.
The Chairperson has already been vocal against the Centre’s negligent attitude towards Bengal.
Here are some excerpts from her speech:
Infiltration is not a state-issue. It is Centre’s responsibility. BSF/SSB are responsible for border areas. What was the Centre doing when infiltration was happening? Why did they not build fences?
Why was SEBI sleeping over chit funds when they were formed? What did the Centre not act earlier? Our Govt arrested the owner of chit funds. Sarada was set up during Left Front rule. Congress and BJP both were in power at Centre. Left Front was an ally in UPA 1. Chit Fund law is under Central jurisdiction. We formed a commission and returned money to 5 lakh people. Several other chit funds have funded many media houses and their events. Why is action not being taken against them?
There is no infighting in Trinamool. Media over hypes minor incidents. If a lot of vessels are kept together, there will be some noise. We have to loyally serve the people. We have to keep their trust. Inform the police and administration if you come to know about any untoward incident.
I ask all my elected representatives to work well and serve people. Do not leave any scope to complain. Do not think I am not aware of what is happening in the grassroots. A section of media has sunk to the level of malicious propaganda and smear campaign.
A recent survey has shown Kolkata is the safest city in the country. Bengal is No. 1 in 100 Days Work Scheme. We are No. in India in skill development and MSME sector. We started fair price medicine shops. We offer 60-70% discount on medicines. We have done away with paid beds at health centres and hospitals at district level. We have given homes to the homeless. We will give identity cards to hawkers.
We want people to live a life of dignity, without bowing their heads. We have started Kanyashree scheme and registered over 16 lakh girls. We have decided to provide skill development training to 10 lakh youths.
Work for IIIT in Kalyani has started. An IT Park is coming up here. We do not believe in taking away jobs. We want to create jobs for the people. During teacher recruitment, we will have a quota for para-teachers. We are setting up 40 multi super-specialty hospitals across Bengal. Our ministers are toiling day in and day out for the sake of the people. You elected Dr Amit Mitra. You have no idea how hard he works for people.
We have given reservation to OBCs and minorities, without affecting the General class. We are renovating the youth hostels. We are focusing on beautification of cities. We have taken up several drinking water projects. We are committed to supplying arsenic-free water. Several Kisan Bazaars are ready. We started Biswa Bangla brand for state handicrafts. We started Yuvashree scheme.
Some people are trying to drive a wedge between Hindus and Muslims. This is not the culture of Bengal. We believe in communal harmony. We work for all irrespective of caste, creed or religion. Riot-culture of danga gurus will not work in Bengal. Some people are trying to give a religious spin to any incident. This is a land of harmony. We have to defeat the conspiracies of rioters.

We are building a gateway at Sagar Islands. The Mahant at Kapil Muni Ashram asked us to name it Sarva Dharma Samanyaya. Our Dharma Gurus have taught us about communal harmony. Shri Ramakrishna said ‘Joto Mot, Toto Poth’. We respect Dharma Gurus who teach us about harmony. We do not respect Danga Gurus who practice divisive tactics.
I request my frontal organisations to reach out to people and recruit grassroots workers. If someone attacks me, I will reply politically.
Trinamool is not a political party. We are people’s party. Give a fitting reply to the slander campaign, but politically.
