Mamata lashes out against Railways over stalling of train services
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday lashed out at the Indian Railway’s proposal of stopping train services on as many as eight lines, which they claim to be commercially unviable. The routes where the Railways are proposing to stall services include Sonarpur – Canning, Baruipur- Namkhana, Kalyani- Kalyani Simanta, Burdwan- Katwa, Bhimgarh- Palashkhali, Burdwan- Katwa, Ballygunge Budge Budge , Barasat- Hasnabad and Santipur – Nabadwipghat.
“This is again a step-motherly attitude from the Centre’s part. It is a disrespect for the state. We will not tolerate this attitude of the Centre,” Banerjee told reporters at the State Secretariat Nabanna. It may be mentioned that train services in these routes started when Banerjee was the Railway minister. “This is a political vendetta. We will not accept this decision,” she reiterated.
We have to pay around Rs 50 crore to the Centre as debt every year. Now, they are asking us to cough up 50 percent to compensate the loss that they are incurring in these routes. We will strongly object to this,” she said.

৮টি লোকাল ট্রেনের রুট বন্ধে রেলমন্ত্রকের চিঠি রাজ্যকে, ক্ষোভ প্রকাশ করলেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী
রাজ্যের লোকাল ট্রেনের আটটি শাখায় রেল চলাচল বন্ধ করতে চেয়ে মুখ্যসচিবকে চিঠি দিল রেলমন্ত্রক। এই রুটগুলির মধ্যে রয়েছে বারাসত থেকে হাসনাবাদ, কল্যাণী থেকে কল্যাণী-সীমান্ত, শান্তিপুর থেকে নবদ্বীপ।বালিগঞ্জ থেকে বজবজ, সোনারপুর থেকে ক্যানিং, বারুইপুর থেকে নামখানা, বর্ধমান থেকে কাটোয়া, ভীমগড় থেকে পলাশস্থলী। কেন্দ্রের এহেন তুঘলকি প্রস্তাবকে জনস্বার্থ বিরোধী আখ্যা দিয়েছেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়।
তিনি জানিয়েছেন, ‘রাজ্যের প্রতি বঞ্চনা করছে কেন্দ্র। এটা কেন্দ্রের একটি ষড়যন্ত্র। কেন্দ্রের প্রকল্পের টাকা রাজ্যকে দিতে হচ্ছে। এটা কেন্দ্রের রাজ্যের প্রতি চরম বঞ্চনা। বাংলার অসম্মান। এই অপমান সহ্য করব না। এই শাখা গুলিতে ট্রেন চালু হয়েছিল আমার আমলে। এটা রাজনৈতিক প্রতিহিংসা। কোনওভাবেই মানব না’।
এদিন তিনি আরও বলেন, ‘কেন্দ্র আগেই ৫০ হাজার কোটি টাকা আমাদের থেকে কেটে নিয়েছে। আবার ওরা বলছে লস প্রজেক্টের জন্য ৫০ শতাংশ টাকা দিতে হবে। আমরা চরম আপত্তি জানাচ্ছি’।
