Jangalmahal to become a major tourism hub
After being known for long as a Maoist hotbed, Jangalmahal in Bengal is finally trying to shed off its ill-repute by promoting the unexplored locales as tourist attractions. The Bengal Government is creating tourism packages covering the Jangalmahal circuit, that includes areas of Paschim Medinipur, Purulia and Bankura districts, by not only putting up infrastructural facilities like cable cars, heritage hotels and lodges but also inviting private investors to be a part of the endeavour.
The development of the tourism circuit would take off with Jhargram and the heritage spots around the area. “We have our detailed project report ready. The project would involve investments to the tune of Rs65 crores which are awaited for approvals from the central government,” said the State Tourism Department principal secretary.
The West Bengal Tourism Development Corporation (WBTDC) has already started overnight packages which take tourists around unexplored areas of Jhargram. The places include Belpahari, Khagra Falls, Kakrajhor, Laljal and others.
WBTDC is also promoting trekking and other adventure tourism in Kakrajhor. There are places in Jhargram like Rameshwar Mandir, the banks of the river Subarnarekha and Tapavan, which is Rishi Valmiki’s burial place, which have not been promoted.
The tourists are put up at the year-old Jhargram lodge and given access to the Jahrgram Rajbari. The package comes with a discount on accommodation.
Alongside the tourist lodge that has 22 cottages, and is been expanded, WBTDC is also putting up another eight tourist facilitation centres, each of which would consist of a cafeteria, restrooms and four rooms for boarding. There’s more in the pipeline for the area. Negotiation with the owners of Chilkigarh Rajbari is on for developing a heritage hotel project at the royal palace, located 15 km from Jhargram. It will soon become a palace resort with 10 rooms for guests.
গুরুত্বপূর্ণ পর্যটনকেন্দ্র হতে চলেছে জঙ্গলমহল
বহু বছর ধরে মাওবাদীদের অবাধ বিচরণভূমি হিসেবে পরিচিত জঙ্গলমহল ক্রমে তার ওই বদনাম মুছে নিজেকে পর্যটনকেন্দ্র হিসেবে পরিচিতি দিতে তৈরী হয়ে গেলো । পর্যটনের জন্য জঙ্গলমহল প্যাকেজ তৈরী হয়েছে যার মধ্যে আছে পশ্চিম মেদিনীপুর, পুরুলিয়া, বাঁকুড়া, রাজ্য সরকার যে শুধুমাত্র পরিকাঠামোগত সুযোগ সুবিধের বন্দোবস্ত করছে যেমন কেবল কার, ঐতিহ্যবাহী হোটেল তাই নয়, সঙ্গে সঙ্গে বেসরকারি বিনিয়োগকেও সদর আমন্ত্রণ জানানো হচ্ছে।
রাজ্য পর্যটন দপ্তরের মুখ্য সচিব জানান, ঝাড়গ্রাম ও তার পার্শবর্তী অঞ্চলকে কেন্দ্র করে এই পর্যটন কেন্দ্র তৈরী হতে চলেছে। এই প্রকল্পের বিশদ রিপোর্টও তৈরী হয়ে গেছে। কেন্দ্রীয় সরকারের অনুমোদন পেলেই ৬৫ কোটি টাকার এই প্রকল্পটি শুরু হয়ে যাবে।
রাজ্য পরিবহন দপ্তর ইতিমধ্যেই প্যাকেজ শুরু করে দিয়েছে যেখানে পর্যটকরা জঙ্গলমহলের নেদেখা সব জায়গায় যাওয়ার সুযোগ পাবেন যার মধ্যে আছে বেলপাহাড়ি, খাগড়া ঝর্ণা, কাঁকড়াঝড়, লালজাল প্রমুখ স্থান।
পরিবহন দপ্তর কাঁকড়াঝড় অঞ্চলে ট্রেকিং ও অন্যান্য নানারকম এডভেঞ্চার স্পোর্টসের বন্দোবস্ত করছে। রামেশ্বর মন্দির, সুবর্ণরেখা নদীর তীর, ঋষি বাল্মীকির সমাধিস্থল তপোবন এসব অঞ্চলকেও দর্শকদের সামনে তুলে ধরা হবে। পরিবহন দপ্তর এইসব ঐতিহাসিক স্থান গুলিকে চিহ্নিত ও জনপ্রিয় করে তলায় লেগে রয়েছে।
পর্যটকদের জন্য ঝাড়গ্রাম লজে থাকার ব্যবস্থা করা হচ্ছে ও তারা ঝাড়গ্রাম রাজবাড়ি ঘোরার সুযোগ পাবে ও তাদের ডিসকাউন্ট দেওয়া হবে।
