FULL TRANSCRIPT

Sir, I would like to share the grief of all the employees/staff of GI Press, Santragachi, Howrah.

Hon Chairman Sir, there are in total 17 units of Government of India Press spread across the country. Among the 17 units, state of West Bengal has four units.

Sir, the employees and workers of PSP department and Govt of India Press in particular have witnessed various attacks on their livelihood since the last 30 years by the Union Government. This has been proved again by the NDA led Union Govt in the recent Cabinet meeting held on 20.09.2017. The Cabinet has decided to winding up most of the GIPs retaining only 5 out of total 17 units in the country. Due to this decision by the Union Govt. only one GIP will be retained in the state of West Bengal.

Sir, this subject of Merging of GI Press in the country has been taken up by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Urban Development and the committee in its 12th report of 2016 has recommended that with modernized infrastructure, advanced contemporary machineries and essential man power can achieve optimum productivity.

They have recommended for continuation of all the 15 GIPs in the country. Despite the favourable recommendations and concerns of various Working Unions of GIPs in West Bengal, the Union Government has directed for the Merger of GIPs.

I, therefore, urge the government to reconsider the decision and contemplate the loss of jobs and the potential and train up programme of unemployed youths.
