Chief Minister holds public meeting at Darjeeling, inaugurates Lamahata Tourists Centre

West Bengal Chief Minister Ms. Mamata Banerjee addressed a public meeting at Darjeeling Chowrasta on Tuesday. She inaugurated the `Uttar Banga Utsav` (North Bengal Festival) at Kanchanjangha Stadium on Monday
She inaugurated a slew of projects like a tourist centre at Lamahata, Bijanbari Setu bridge on Rangit river which collapsed a month ago killing and injuring many. Lodama inter-connector tunnel and a guest house at Algora.
The Bengal Chief Minister thanked all for coming to her meeting inspite of the chilling weather in Darjeeling. `I am happy that you all have come today, I know it is too cold and inspite of the biting cold you all have come here. This is the tradition of the Hills to welcome their guests with warmth`, said the Chief Minister.
Speaking on this occasion, the Chief Minsiter said, `I love Darjeeling and this is why I am here today, I will come here again. I want to assure you that we are not here to show strength. I want to see you all happy and for that you need development in the region`.
`There was no work done in the past 20-years. There was no development, nobody even cared to visit Darjeeling. The past regime ruined the Hills by organizing agitations and bands. I want you to have a look at the development taking place around. Have a look at the number of tourists this year visiting Darjeeling. I want you to decide yourself`, she reiterated her commitment to develop the Hills.
The Chief Minister in a clear message to those trying to disrupt the meeting and create commotion by carrying flags and raising political slogans said, `This is not any political party programme where you can raise political slogans. I will appreciate and feel happy if you realize that this is a government programme and maintain peace`.
