95% coverage of rural electrification in Bengal by March, 2015

The State Power Minister Manish Gupta toldthe state Assembly that electricity has been provided in about 88 per cent ofthe rural household of Below Poverty Line (BPL) category during the 11th Planperiod.

He said that in the rural sector there are48 lakh BPL households and 79 lakh Above Poverty Line (APL) households. MrGupta said by March 2015, there would be 95 per cent coverage of ruralelectrification.

“During the Left Front regime, hardly therewas any investment on infrastructure development. But we have decided todevelop infrastructure,” the Power Minister said.

The Minister said talks are on with AndrewYule & Company Limited so that they can maintain a steady supply oftransformers. He also said that due to excessive heat about three lakh airconditioners were sold from 2012 to 2014.
