WBLDC to set up its second meat processing plant at Phansidewa
The Bengal Government has decided to set up a chicken and pork processing plant at Phansidewa in Darjeeling district. West Bengal Livestock Development Corporation (WBLDC), an agency of the Animal Resources Development Department is setting it up.
This would be the second chicken and pork processing unit of WBLDC, after the one at Haringhata in Nadia district. While the Haringhata plant has a meat processing capacity of 3.5 metric tonnes per day, the Phanisidewa unit would have double the capacity – 7 metric tonnes per day. The State Government is investing Rs 32 crore for the project, which is expected to be operational by May or June this year.
The new plant will cater to the huge demand of meat in north Bengal and the north-eastern states, said the managing director of WBLDC. According to him, there is also a huge demand for quality meat in neighbouring countries like Nepal and Bhutan, and the government will also tap this tremendous export potential.
The meat products would be sold from the 230-odd Haringhata Meat outlets in the state, which also come under the WBLDC. Chicken cutlets, kebabs, nuggets, chicken sausages, chicken popcorn, etc., which are sold at attractive prices from the outlets, are very popular. Pork items like salami, bacon and sausages also have a good demand.
Some leading restaurants in Kolkata and some online food suppliers also procure frozen meat from WBLDC. Once the unit in north Bengal becomes functional, WBLDC would be able to supply to hotels in north Bengal as well.
ফাঁসিদেওয়াতে খাদ্য প্রক্রিয়াকরণ কেন্দ্র গড়বে রাজ্য
দার্জিলিং জেলার ফাঁসিদেওয়াতে একটি খাদ্য প্রক্রিয়াকরণ কেন্দ্র গড়ার সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছে রাজ্য সরকার। প্রাণীসম্পদ উন্নয়ন দপ্তর তৈরী করবে এই কেন্দ্রটি।
নদীয়া জেলার হরিণঘাটায় ইতিমধ্যেই একটি প্রক্রিয়াকরণ কেন্দ্র আছে। এটি হবে রাজ্যের দ্বিতীয় এবং উত্তরবঙ্গের প্রথম খাদ্য প্রক্রিয়াকরণ কেন্দ্র।
হরিণঘাটা কেন্দ্র প্রতিদিন ৩.৫ মেট্রিক টন মাংস উৎপাদন করতে পারে। ফাঁসিদেওয়ার কেন্দ্রটির ক্ষমতা হবে ৭ টন। এ বছরের মে বা জুন মাস থেকে এই কেন্দ্রটি কাজ শুরু করবে।
এই নতুন কেন্দ্রটি উত্তরবঙ্গ ও উত্তর-পূর্বের রাজ্যগুলির বিপুল মাংসের চাহিদা মেটাবে। পাশাপাশি, নেপাল ও ভুটানের মত প্রতিবেশী রাষ্ট্রেও রপ্তানির বিশাল সুযোগ থাকছে।এখানে তৈরী মাংসের বিভিন্ন খাদ্যদ্রব্য হরিণঘাটার ২৩০টি বিপণন কেন্দ্রে পাওয়া যাবে।
কলকাতার অনেক নামকরা রেস্তোরাঁ ও কিছু অনলাইন খাদ্য সরবরাহকারী সংস্থা এই হরিণঘাটার বিপণন কেন্দ্র থেকে মাংস সংগ্রহ করে। এই কেন্দ্রটি চালু হলে প্রাণীসম্পদ দপ্তর উত্তরবঙ্গের হোটেলেও মাংসের জোগান দিতে পারবে।
