Bengal’s shuntki finds new markets in the north-east
Bengal has a huge potential in the production and marketing of dried fish, called ‘shuntki maach’ in Bengali, and the state government is leaving no stone unturned to utilise this.
Both the production and export of shuntki maach are increasing rapidly, thanks to the policies of the government.
The state is already busy capturing the market for this kind of processed fish that exists in north-eastern India. Especially now that winter is on, the exports to those states have also increased, according to the demand. Fish cultivators in the coastal districts of South 24 Parganas and Purba Medinipur are mostly involved.
The government is also busy exploring avenues for exporting to countries. The export of these fishes has a lot of potential for the reason too of their being fresh for six months. Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar and Thailand are being considered.
Earlier, drying of fish was done exclusively in the open, and hence, on cloudy days, the process became suspended. Now the State Government has taken measures for indoor drying under special lights and in special drying centres. All these are being managed by the government agency, Benfish, which handles the packaging too.
উত্তর-পূর্বে পাড়ি দিচ্ছে বাংলার শুঁটকি
রাজ্য সরকারের নীতির বদান্যতায় সুদূর পুবে পাড়ি দিচ্ছে বাংলার শুঁটকি মাছ। অতিরিক্ত যোগানের ফলে এবার ত্রিপুরা, মিজোরাম, অরুণাচল প্রদেশ, নাগাল্যান্ড, মণিপুরেও রমরমা বাজার এই রাজ্যের শুঁটকির।
এতদিন এই অঞ্চলে এই মাছের জোগান দিত বাংলাদেশ। কিন্তু এবার এই বাজার ধরতে কোমর বেঁধে আসরে নেমেছে রাজ্য সরকার। রাজ্য সরকার, মূলত বেনফিশ, মৎস্যচাষীদের পাশে দাঁড়িয়েছে। দক্ষিণ ২৪ পরগনা ও পূর্ব মেদিনীপুর জেলার উপকূলবর্তী অঞ্চলের মৎস্যচাষীরা শুঁটকি উৎপাদনে নিযুক্ত।
মাছ শোকাতে নানারকম পরিকাঠামো তৈরী করেছে রাজ্য সরকার। বাঁধিয়ে দেওয়া হচ্ছে চাতাল, আধুনিক আলোর সাহায্যে শুকিয়ে ফেলা হচ্ছে মাছ। বহুজায়গায় সৌরবিদ্যুতের ব্যবস্থাও করা হয়েছে। মাছচাষীদের ঋণের ব্যবস্থা করে দেওয়া হয়েছে, বেড়েছে সরকারি অর্থসাহায্য। সবথেকে বড় কথা, বিপণনের ব্যবস্থা করছে সরকারি সংস্থা বেনফিশ। প্যাকেজিংয়ের জন্য মাছচাষীদের দেওয়া হচ্ছে প্রশিক্ষণ।
উত্তর-পূর্বের রাজ্যগুলির পাশাপাশি বিদেশের বাজারেও – ইন্দোনেশিয়া, থাইল্যাড, মালয়েশিয়া, ব্যাংকক – প্রবেশ করতে আগ্রহী রাজ্য মৎস্য দপ্তর।
