Mamata Banerjee slams Centre for not allowing Bengal’s Republic Day tableaux
Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today inaugurated Kolkata Christmas Festival at Park Street, Kolkata. Speaking on the occasion, she stressed on the importance of unity, harmony and humanism. She said that festivals cannot be categorised into ‘ours’ and ‘theirs’.
She also lashed out at the Centre for cancelling the national holiday on Christmas and demanded that this decision be withdrawn immediately. The CM also attacked the Centre for not allowing Bengal’s tableaux for Republic Day, 2018. She wondered whether the decision was prompted by the theme of Bengal’s tableaux – unity is harmony.
Highlights of the Chief Minister’s speech:
Ramakrishna Paramhansa, Swami Vivekananda, Prophet Mohammed, Jesus Christ – everyone preached about humanism. They believed in spirit of brotherhood. Religion stands for humanism. Equality and harmony are our guiding mottos.
Everyone has the freedom to follow their own religion. But festivals are for everybody. Be it Christmas, Eid or Durga Pujo – we celebrate all festivals with equal fervour.
Christmas was a national holiday but the Centre cancelled the holiday. I do not know what purpose it serves. There is no logic. If someone asks us to cancel holidays during Durga Pujo, will we agree? Centre must withdraw its decision and restore Christmas as a national holiday. There are some sentiments which must not be hurt.
We believe in Sarva Dharma Samannaya. We believe in universal humanism. I attend the festivals of all religions. Human body is composed of multiple organs, working in harmony. Society cannot function without all.
In the last three years, our tableaux won the first prize at Republic Day parade in two years. In 2015, our tableaux on Kanyashree was not allowed. This year our theme was “Ekotai Sampriti” (unity is harmony). Was that the reason why our tableaux was rejected?
India is a land of linguistic diversity. There is unity in diversity. Father Biswas is wearing a robe, I am wearing a saree, someone else is wearing a salwar-kameez. Everyone has their own choice.
‘Nana bhasha, nana mot, nana poridhan. Bibidher majhe dekho milan mohan’ (Everyone has different languages, different food habits, different clothings but we are all united).
Those who work for people of all backgrounds, without discrimination, are true leaders.
প্রজাতন্ত্র দিবসে বাংলার ট্যাবলোকে উপেক্ষা – কেন্দ্রকে আক্রমণ মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর
আজ পার্ক স্ট্রিটে কলকাতা ক্রিস্টমাস ফেস্টিভ্যালের উদ্বোধন করেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী। অনুষ্ঠানে বক্তব্য রাখতে গিয়ে তিনি একতা, সম্প্রীতি ও মানবতা রক্ষার বার্তা দেন। মুখ্যমন্ত্রী বলেন উৎসবের আমরা-ওরা হয় না।
প্রজাতন্ত্র দিবসের কুচকাওয়াজে বাংলার ট্যাবলোকে এখনও অনুমতি না দেওয়ায় কেন্দ্রকে আক্রমণ করেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী। তিনি বলেন, আমাদের এবারের থিম ছিল একতাই সম্প্রীতি, তাই কি কেন্দ্র অনুমতি দিল না?
বড়দিনকে জাতীয় ছুটির লিস্ট থেকে বাদ দেওয়ারও তীব্র নিন্দা করেন তিনি, এবং অবিলম্বে কেন্দ্রের এই সিদ্ধান্ত প্রত্যাহারের দাবি জানান।
মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর বক্তব্যের কিছু অংশ:
সবার উৎসব আমাদের উৎসব। আমরা জেসাসকে মানবতার ধর্মগুরু বলে মনে করি। রামকৃষ্ণ পরমহংস, স্বামী বিবেকানন্দ যদি হিন্দু ধর্ম শেখান, তাঁর মধ্যেও মানবিকতা শেখান। প্রফেট নবী যদি ধর্ম শেখান, দেখবেন তাঁর মধ্যেও মানবতার কথাই বলেছেন।
প্রত্যেকে যে যার নিজের ধর্মের উৎসব পালন করে। উৎসব কোনও নির্দিষ্ট কারোর মধ্যে সীমাবদ্ধ থাকে না।
আমাদের কলকাতা বা ভারতের লার্জার সেক্সন এই উৎসব পালন করে।ন্যাশানাল হলিডে ছিল বড়দিন, সেটা তুলে নেওয়া হল কেন? কোনও লজিক নেই। সেন্ট্রাল গভর্নমেন্টের উচিত এই সিদ্ধান্ত তুলে নেওয়া। যদি আমায় কেউ বলে দুর্গাপুজোর ছুটি বন্ধ করে দিন, আমি শুনব? মানবতাকে সম্মান করব না, মনে রাখব না? মানুষের কিছু সেন্টিমেন্টে আঘাত করতে নেই।
আমরা সর্ব ধর্ম সমন্বয়কে, মানবতাকে ভালোবাসি। আমি সমস্ত ধর্মীয় অনুষ্ঠানে যাই।
রিপাবলিক ডে প্যারেডে দুবার ফার্স্ট প্রাইজ পেয়েছি, ২০১৫ সালে কন্যাশী আকসেপ্ট করল না, এবারেও আমাদের বাদ দেওয়া হয়েছে।
ভাষার মধ্যে একতা, চার্চের ফাদার একরকমের পোশাক পরেন, আমি শাড়ি পরেছি, আমার কোনও বোন সালোয়ার কামিজ পরেছে।
নানা ভাষা, নানা মত, নানা পরিধান. বিভেদের মাঝে দেখো মিলন মহান।
মহান তারাই হয় যারা সমস্ত জাতিকে একসঙ্গে নিয়ে চলতে পারে। দৃষ্টিভঙ্গি ইউনিভার্সাল হলে, তবেই সেখান থেকে বড় ধর্মের উৎপত্তি হয়।
