Bengal Govt organises Raibenshe Mela in association with UNESCO
The first-of-its-kind Raibenshe Mela kicked off at Sahora in Burwan block in Murshidabad district on December 9, to continue till December 11.
Raibenshe is a nearly 400-year-old genre of folk martial dance, performed by males only, that combines acrobatic movement and balancing tricks with bamboo poles, and is prevalent mostly in Murshidabad, Birbhum, and Purba and Paschim Bardhaman districts.
The fair is supported by the West Bengal Khadi and Village Industries Board (WBKVIB) and is part of the ongoing Rural Craft and Cultural Hubs (RCCH) initiative undertaken by the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Department in association with UNESCO.
The MSME Department, in association with UNESCO, has developed 10 Rural Craft Hubs across 11 locations, with 3,000 people involved with handicrafts, to support and strengthen grassroots creative enterprises in Bengal. The project has demonstrated how traditional art can be the epicentre of vibrant eco-systems that are self-sustaining.
Buoyed by the success, the project has been scaled up as Rural Craft and Cultural Hub (RCCH) and includes an additional 12,000 people involved with handicrafts and folk performing arts across 15 districts. Raibenshe has been included in RCCH.
‘Village’, ‘Artist’ and ‘Art’ are the three main components of RCCH, and thus this village festival is very important. Around 290 Raibenshe artistes from Birbhum, Burdwan and Murshidabad will showcase their skills during the festival.
ইউনেস্কোর সহযোগিতায় মুর্শিদাবাদে রায়বেঁশে মেলা
মুর্শিদাবাদ জেলার বুরোয়ান ব্লকের সাহোরাতে শুরু হল তিন দিন ব্যাপী রাইবেশে মেলার। এই ধরনের মেলা এই প্রথম। মেলা শুরু হয়েছে ৯ই ডিসেম্বর, চলবে ১১ই ডিসেম্বর পর্যন্ত। বীরভূম, বর্ধমান ও মুর্শিদাবাদের আনুমানিক ২৯০ জন শিল্পী এই মেলায় অংশগ্রহণ করবেন।
৪০০ বছরের পুরনো এক মার্শাল আর্ট শিল্প রায়বেঁশে। এই মার্শাল আর্ট চর্চা করেন শুধু পুরুষরা। মল্লক্রীড়ার পাশাপাশি বাঁশের ওপর ব্যালান্সও করেন রায়বেঁশে শিল্পীরা। মুর্শিদাবাদ, বীরভূম, পূর্ব ও পশ্চিম বর্ধমান জেলায় প্রচলিত এই রায়বেঁশে।
ক্ষুদ্র, মাঝারি ও কুটির শিল্প দপ্তরের রুরাল ক্রাফট অ্যান্ড কালচারাল হাব প্রকল্পের অংশ হিসেবেই অনুষ্ঠিত হচ্ছে এই মেলা। সহযোগিতায় ইউনেস্কো।
ইউনেস্কোর সহযোগিতায় ক্ষুদ্র, মাঝারি ও কুটির শিল্প দপ্তর ইতিমধ্যেই ১১টি জায়গায় ১০টি রুরাল ক্রাফট হাব তৈরী করেছে। এই হাবগুলির সাথে ৩০০০ জন শিল্পী যুক্ত। এর ফলে রাজ্যের একদম তৃণমূল স্তরে হস্তশিল্পের ভিত আরও মজবুত হচ্ছে। প্রবাহমান সময়ের সাথে নিজেদের অস্তিত্ব বজায় রাখতে পারছেন শিল্পীরা।
রুরাল ক্রাফট হাবের বিপুল সাফল্যের পর এই প্রকল্পটিকে রুরাল ক্রাফট অ্যান্ড কালচারাল হাবে রুপান্তরিত করা হয়েছে। ১৫টি জেলার অতিরিক্ত ১২০০০ হস্তশিল্পী ও মার্শাল আর্ট শিল্পী এই প্রকল্পের সাথে যুক্ত হয়েছেন। এনারা সকলে ১৫টি ভিন্ন জেলার। রায়বেঁশেকেও রুরাল ক্রাফট অ্যান্ড কালচারাল হাবের অন্তর্গত করা হয়েছে।
রুরাল ক্রাফট অ্যান্ড কালচারাল হাবের মূল ভিত্তি হল গ্রামীণ শিল্প ও কলা। তাই, এই মেলার গুরুত্ব অপরিসীম।
