Bengal Govt planning to launch electric buses in Kolkata
The state transport department is going through a proposal of announcing electric buses in the city after the introduction of air-conditioned mini buses on Monday.
Suvendu Adhikari, the state Transport Minister, said: “We have received proposals to allow plying of electric buses in the city. We are going through the plan to ply buses that are also already operational in some cities in the country.”
The Transport Minister added: “Loans were taken to buy buses during the Left Front regime. It led to a debt of Rs 132 crore as buses were not bought under planned heads. As a result, still the Transport department is going on clearing the loan. Since the buses are now bought under planned heads, we have managed to improve the work of the department manifold.”

কলকাতায় বৈদ্যুতিক বাস চালানোর পরিকল্পনা রাজ্য সরকারের
কলকাতার রাস্তায় বৈদ্যুতিক বাস চালু করার পরিকল্পনা করছে রাজ্য সরকার। সোমবার দমদমে এমনটাই জানালেন রাজ্যের পরিবহণমন্ত্রী শুভেন্দু অধিকারী।
সোমবার বিমানবন্দর থেকে হাওড়া ময়দানগামী বাতানুকূল মিনিবাস চালু করল পরিবহণ দফতর। সেই শীতাতপ নিয়ন্ত্রিত বাসের উদ্বোধন করতে এসে শুভেন্দুবাবু জানান বৈদ্যুতিক বাস চালুর ক্ষেত্রে রাজ্য সরকারের নয়া পরিকল্পনার কথা।
পরিবহণমন্ত্রী বলেন, ‘‘অন্যান্য রাজ্যে বৈদ্যুতিক বাস ইতিমধ্যেই চালু হয়ে গিয়েছে। ব্যাটারিচালিত বাসের মতোই ওই বাস দূষণ ছড়ায় না। যে কারণে পরিবহণ দফতর পরিকল্পনা করছে বৈদ্যুতিক বাস চালানোর। ওই ধরনের বাস যাঁরা তৈরি করছে, সেই সব সংস্থার সঙ্গে আমাদের কথাবার্তাও চলছে।’’
