Bengal Govt to teach prisoners basic literacy through computers
With the aim to achieve 100 per cent literacy among prison inmates of West Bengal, the state has launched a Computer Based Fundamental Literacy Programme (CBFL). It was announced on Monday.
Christened ‘Project Sandeepan’, the initiative was launched on February 1 by the Department of Correctional Administration and has a private company as its knowledge partner.
“Training has been imparted free of cost by the private company to participants from all cadres of correctional staff and officers, including inmates at four different locations of the state for the Computers. Accessories required for running CBFL software is being allotted to all correctional homes,” a statement from the department said.

রাজ্যের সংশোধনাগারগুলিতে কম্পিউটার শিক্ষার প্রসার ঘটাতে উদ্যোগী হল রাজ্য সরকার। এই উদ্দেশ্যে গত সোমবার চালু করা হল ‘কম্পিউটার বেসড ফান্ডামেন্টাল লিটারেসি প্রোগ্রাম’-এর।
একটি বেসরকারি সংস্থার সহযোগিতায় কারা দপ্তর গত ১লা ফেব্রুয়ারি থেকে এই প্রকল্প শুরু হয়েছে। এই প্রকল্পের নাম দেওয়া হয়েছে “সন্দীপন”।
কারা দপ্তরের তথ্য অনুযায়ী রাজ্যের ৪টি স্থানে কারা কর্মী, কারা আধিকারিক এবং কয়েদীদের প্রতিনিধি দলকে বিনামুল্যে কম্পিউটারের প্রশিক্ষণ দেওয়া হয়েছে। রাজ্যের সব সংশোধনাগারগুলিতেই সিবিএফএল সফটওয়্যারটি পাঠানো হয়েছে।
