Why should Modi or Amit Shah not be arrested: Mamata Banerjee

“People will teach them a lesson”, said Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today, lambasting the Central Government for harassing senior politicians of the Trinamool Congress.

She said the arrest of Sudip Bandyopadhyay as “having been made under pressure from the PMO”.

Regarding chit funds in the State of Bengal, she said that they had started under the patronage of the CPI(M) Government; hence, people like Sujan Chakraborty who are known to be involved should be arrested. She also asked for the arrest of the BJP’s Babul Supriyo who also has a connection with chit funds.

She came down strongly on the BJP-led Central Government: “Like ‘note bandi’, this is an attempt at ‘Trinamool-bandi’.

She said, “Modi is dangabaaz. He tries to silence his opponents using fear tactics”.

She asked, “Why should Narendra Modi and Amit Shah not be arrested?” since they are involved in a lot of misdemeanours too.

She said that “many political parties are scared, so are not able to speak out”. However, she asked the affected Opposition parties, and there are a lot of Opposition parties across India who have been affected by this political vendetta of the BJP, to fight this “emergency situation” that is going on.

Mamata Banerjee said, “People should come out on to the roads against demonetisation, people will teach them (the BJP) a lesson”.

“I challenge the PM. He won’t be able to do anything because he won’t be able to suppress the voice of the people”.

True to her nature, however, Mamata Banerjee said that she won’t indulge in a tit-for-tat by arresting leaders. Rather, she said, “We will take the battle forward legally”. She added that “it has come to our notice that even lawyers are being threatened and judges are being influenced”.

Mamata Banerjee announced a sustained programme of protest against the BJP from tomorrow. Tomorrow, a protest march will be taken out in Kolkata from 12 pm; also tomorrow, there will be a protest by Trinamool Congress MPs at the parliament complex.

There will be a protest outside the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) office in Kolkata on January 9, and further protests in Delhi on January 10 and 11.

On January 9, too, protests against the BJP will start all over India, to be led by senior Trinamool Congress leaders.

লোকসভায় তৃণমূলের দলনেতা সুদীপ বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়কে গ্রেফতারের প্রতিক্রিয়ায় মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় বলেন, “প্রধানমন্ত্রীর চাপেই এই গ্রেফতার করা হয়েছে। “জনগন উচিত শিক্ষা দেবে।”

তিনি বলেন, এই চিট ফান্ড সিপিআইএম সরকারের আমলে শুরু হয়েছে। চিটফান্ডের সাথে জড়িত অন্যান্য দলের নেতাদের (সুজন চক্রবর্তী, বাবুল সুপ্রিয় প্রমুখ) কেন গ্রেপ্তার করা হচ্ছে না তও জানতে চান তিনি।

তিনি বলেন, বিজেপি শাসিত কেন্দ্রীয় সরকার নোটবন্দির সাথে তৃণমূলবন্দি শুরু করেছে। তিনি আরও জানান, “মোদী দাঙ্গাবাজ, তিনি তার বিরোধীদের এইভাবেই ভয় দেখান।“

অনেক দাঙ্গায় জড়িত মোদী ও অমিত শাহের গ্রেফতারের দাবি জানান মুখ্যমন্ত্রী।

তিনি বলেন, অনেক রাজনৈতিক দল খুব ভিতু, তাই তারা কোনও প্রতিবাদ করছে না। তিনি সমস্ত রাজনৈতিক দলকে বিজেপির এই প্রতিহিংসাপরায়ন রাজনিতির বিরুদ্ধে রুখে দাঁড়ানোর আহ্বান জানান।

মমতা ব্যানার্জি বলেন, “আমি প্রধানমন্ত্রীকে চ্যালেঞ্জ জানাচ্ছি। উনি এসব করে কিছুই করতে পারবেন না কারন তিনি জনগনের কণ্ঠস্বর চেপে রাখতে পারবেন না।“

তার স্বভাবসিদ্ধ ভঙ্গিতে তিনি বলেন, আমরা আইনি লড়াই চালিয়ে যাবেন।

মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় বিজেপির বিরুদ্ধে দীর্ঘমেয়াদী প্রতিবাদ কর্মসূচীর কথা ঘোষণা করেন। আগামীকাল দুপুর ১২টায় কলকাতায় একটি প্রতিবাদ মিছিল আয়োজন করা হবে ও পাশাপাশি তৃণমূল কংগ্রেসের সাংসদরা সংসদ চত্বরে প্রতিবাদ জানাবেন।

৯ই জানুয়ারী কলকাতার রিজার্ভ ব্যাংকের সামনে প্রতিবাদ জানাবে তৃণমূল। ১০ ও ১১ জানুয়ারী দিল্লিতে প্রতিবাদ চলবে।
