Ambedkar Diwas to be observed today across the State

West Bengal Chief Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday initiated the state-wide celebration of “Ambedkar Dibas”  in respect to the legendary figure and to commemorate his 125th birth anniversary year in a befitting manner from Goalpokhor in Uttar Dinajpur.

The celebration of Bharat Ratna Dr B R Ambedkar’s 125th Birth Anniversary will be observed across the state today at district Sadars, Sub-divisions and at Block-levels through paying floral tributes to the Father of Indian Constitution and through other programmes.

The West Bengal Chief Minister on November 27, had announced that B R Ambedkar’s 125 birth anniversary will be celebrated in every block of the state on December 30.

“In honour of the great social reformer and architect of the Indian Constitution Dr B R Ambedkar, we have decided to celebrate Ambedkar Diwas all over the state on December 30 in a befitting manner,” she said.

The Chief Minister also said that a panchayat training centre, named after B R Ambedkar, would be set up in the state. “We will institute a chair in the name of Dr Ambedkar”, she said.
