Woman dies of bullet wounds; Netai death toll rises to nine
KOLKATA, January 17, 2011 : The death toll in the violence at Netai in the Lalgarh area of Paschim Medinipur district on January 7 rose to nine, with a woman succumbing to her bullet wounds in a State hospital here on Sunday. Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee alleged that she was a victim of negligence of the hospital authorities. Another woman, injured in the firing, died in hospital here on January 14. Governor M.K. Narayanan, who had earlier condemned the violence and described the day of the incident as one of “shame and sorrow†for the State, said that he would be visiting Netai on January 19.
