CM confers Siksha Ratna award to teachers on Teachers` Day
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee felicitated one hundred teachers from across the state today in a programme organized by the state School Education Department on the occasion of Teachers` Day at Netaji Indoor Stadium. She conferred Siksha Ratna award to the teachers for their achievement in spreading education. The new syllabi text books for classes II, VI, Vi and VIII of the WBBSE were also ceremonially published by her.
On her speech the CM urged students to strive for all-round development and not concentrate only on studies.”I don't want an education system where students are burdened by the weight of books. I hate to see students worrying about their studies. I want a tension-free education system,” She said at the programme. She urged students to take up cultural activities and sports along with their studies for their all-round development.
“I want to see students growing up in a free environment where there are no worries. Cultural development is an integral part of education,“ she said.
She said that under the present Government, the state has gone up the ladder in terms of education in the country, Banerjee said her government was striving hard to make it number one.
“We have already set up large number educational institutions across the state and soon will set up a commission comprising eminent educationists who will prepare the education roadmap that will take the state towards educational glory,“ she said.
