Chief Minister calls for more Japanese investment
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday sought help from Japanese investors for more investment in the state.
Addressing an inaugural programme of West Bengal Forest and Biodiversity Conservation project at Science City auditorium, she urged Japanese investors to invest in various sectors in the state, including manufacturing, engineering, transport and information technology.
“I have been requesting you to invest more in the state. Bengal has huge potential. I can assure you that investors who come forward and invest in West Bengal will benefit and people of the state would be thankful to you,“ Ms. Banerjee said.
Bengal is the gateway to Nepal, Bhutan and other north-eastern states of the country. Investors can invest on tourism, forest and ayurvedic sectors, she said. “I know Japanese Mitsubishi company has been facing problems and trying to resolve a dispute,“ she said, while assuring that the problem would be resolved within seven days.
Consul-General of Japan Mitsuo Kawaguchi and representatives from the Japan International Cooperation Agencies were present during the occasion.
Ms. Banerjee said the government has decided to give extra incentives to forest conservators who were entrusted by the state government to protect forest resources.
The forest guards and officials of the department have been protecting forest resources and saving life of native people in various adverse situations risking their lives, she said, adding their work need to be well appreciated to encourage them and they deserve the extra incentive for their work.
Ms. Banerjee also asked the government officials to complete the government work within the deadline. Ton fulfil the vision, officials have to complete all government projects within the stipulated time, Miss Banerjee said.
The Chief Minister today distributed cheques worth Rs 84 lakh to members of the forest preservation committee who had helped the government earn profit from various forest schemes.
