WB CM lays the foundation stone of the new campus of St. Xavier`s College
West Bengal Chief Minister Ms. Mamata Banerjee laid the foundation stone of the new campus of St. Xavier`s College Kolkata, at Rajarhat. Present on the occasion were the Hon`ble Governor of West Bengal, the Principal of the college, Fr. Felix Raj, the Minister of Education, the Minister of Urban Development and other ministers and dignitaries.
The new campus will also be the permanent campus of the proposed university – a status the educational institution has been vying for. It will house a business school offering both BBA and MBA courses along with integrated five-year courses on microbiology, biotechnology and computer sciences. The institute will also house a research facility for these departments offering PhD programmes.
The new campus will come up on 17 acres of land in Rajarhat. Chief Minister Ms. Mamata Banerjee had taken the initiative for the expansion of this prestigious institution, after coming to power.

St Xavier's College has always maintained highest standards of education and has made a special place for itself on the state`s education map. I convey my regards to all – the founder members, the teachers, the alumni spread all over the world, and the students. It is not an easy task to set up an institution and run it, while maintaining the highest standard for more than 100 years. St Xavier's is not only a name to reckon with in the state; its reputation has spread far and wide.
The Govt has been doing a lot of work to upgrade the tattered education system in the state. From upgradation of schools to colleges, huge amount of work is being done. St Xavier's University, when it starts functioning, will be one of the 6 universities being set up in the state. I request the college authorities to set up a medical college too. This is the age of Education, Excellence and Expansion. Your alumni will be at your side if you take up such a noble work.
