Trinamool Congress to stay away from indefinite strike called by Indian Railways workers
Trinamool Congress has decided to strongly oppose the indefinite strike called by two trade employees` unions of the Indian Railways. Although the labour wing of Trinamool Congress in the Indian Railways supports the charter of demands raised by the two Trade Unions that have called the strike, the Union of Eastern railway employees & Workers (UERE&W) will follow the footsteps of Trinamool Chairperson Ms. Mamata Banerjee and will stay away from the strike as it has no positive impact.
The famous strike called by the employees of Indian Railways in May, 1974 had resulted in huge loss of productivity. Several mandays were lost, resulting in huge loss of revenue; this notwithstanding the fact that thousands of commuters were stranded across the country. The Indian railways now run 17,000 trains daily. Trinamool Chairperson Ms. Mamata Banerjee had been the Railway Minister on two occasions and such agitations by the Trade Unions were unheard of, during her tenure.
