Bangla Govt to set up SC/ST Commission
The Bangla Government has decided to set up a new commission for the welfare of scheduled castes and scheduled tribes. The State Cabinet took this decision on November 25. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced the decision at Nabanna.
The ‘State Commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes’ will be modelled after the national commission. It will be an autonomous body comprising five members. The chairperson of the commission will be an official of IAS rank. An IPS officer of DIG rank will also be a part of this commission.
The commission will listen to, and take measures for redressal of the complaints of people belonging to scheduled castes and scheduled tribes. They will also advise the government and ensure the scheduled castes and scheduled tribes are not cheated in any way.
