Trinamool MPs raise issues concerning Bengal in Lok Sabha
Trinamool MPs Aparupa Poddar and SuvenduAdhikari today raised several issues facing Bengal during the Zero Hour in LokSabha.
On a discussion of matters of urgent publicimportance, Tamluk MP Suvendu Adhikari raised the issue of crisis in Haldiaport. He said that more than Rs 50000 crore has been invested by privateinvestors in Haldi. But the port was facing problems due to silting in riverHooghly and Haldi. He demanded that Haldia Port Trust Authority be set up assoon as possible.
“Capital dredging must carried out atHaldia port as early as possible by a private company through e-tender, and notby Dredging Corporation of India,” Mr Adhikari said.

Speaking during the same motion, ArambaghMP Aparupa Poddar raised the issue of floods in Arambagh sub-division ofHooghly district due to release of water from upper regions of Damodar.
“A Central scheme over Damodar region isneeded to save Arambagh sub-division and Uluberia sub-division of HowrahDistrict. I will urge upon the Ministryof Water Resource to take up the matter immediately and ensure enough dredgingof Damodar,” she said.

Later during the day, Joynagar MP Pratima Mandal spoke in the Lok Sabha on the issue of protection of mangroves. She said that Sunderbans is disintegrating and the Central Govt must take steps for the preservation of mangroves.
