Solar power made mandatory for WB Govt buildings
The Power Department of the State Government has issued orders to make it mandatory for all State Government buildings should use solar power. The department has already sent out letters in this regard to the respective district offices.
State Power Minister Mr Manish Gupta said that all the district head offices have been asked to submit a report on the number of government buildings in their respective districts. After the reports are available, solar power plants will be installed. Solar power is a form of renewable energy that is generated at a lower cost but in an eco-friendly manner.
It may be noted that several Government buildings in Kolkata, including the Raj Bhavan are using solar generated electricity. The Howrah State General Hospital in Uluberia and many other hospitals are also using solar power.
