Bangla Govt announces funding for Light Hub in Chandannagar

The Bengal Government has announced funding to the tune of Rs 11.5 crore for the proposed Light Hub in Chandannagar in Hooghly district. The hub is a brainchild of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who had announced its creation last year during an administrative review meeting in Tarakeswar.

Chandannagar is famous for its lighting displays. During Jagaddhatri Puja in Chandannagar and during Durga Puja in Kolkata and elsewhere, the expertise of the lighting technicians is on ample display. It has been like this for as long time. A few have spread their wings to Durga Pujas outside Bengal too.

Now the government has decided to give a structured boost to this industry by creating a special zone. The government would have a comprehensive role in the hub. From training lighting technicians and helping them market their products to enable them to bag contracts for different Pujas, everything would be overseen by the government.

This would naturally lead to more and better employment opportunities, including opportunities for the experts to spread their wings to other places in India, especially where Durga Pujas take place, and even abroad.

After Mishti Hub, Muslin Hub and similar clusters comes the Light Hub. These hubs have given a huge boost to traditional small-scale industries. They provide a steady source of income for the families involved and also help in preserving the crafts.

Mishti Hub in Newtown to be inaugurated today

The Bengal Government’s Mishti Hub in Newtown, on the outskirts of Kolkata, will be inaugurated on July 5. It is the only one of its kind in the State, one which will give buyers an opportunity to have sweets made by the best sweet manufacturers of Bengal under one roof.

This is another one of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s ideas coming to fruition. There is a potential market for Bengali sweets both in the country and abroad. The hub will also give an opportunity to tourists who want to carry the famous mouth-watering sweets back home, as it falls en route to the airport.

The Mishti Hub will house 10 popular sweet manufacturing chains of Kolkata, as well as sweet shops from the districts. To maintain quality, it was decided that those opening shops at the hub must have an experience of 25 years or more.

Mishti Hub will remain open from 12 noon to 9 PM. It is located next to the popular spot of Eco Park. There will be a car parking facility for the buyers as well.

Proper signs will be put up on Biswa Bangla Sarani to facilitate the airport-bound buyers. For the residents of Newtown, this hub will enable them to get the best of Kolkata’s sweets at their doorsteps.

The hub has been built on a shop-in-shop concept. The construction of the hub has been done as a combination of tradition and modernity. A central atrium with glass walls will bring the sunlight inside. There is a driveway and a free parking lot for a limited period of 30 minutes.

Mishti Hub in Burdwan to be inaugurated on March 14

Within two days after Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced that Mishti Hub in Burdwan will be inaugurated in the next two months, traders have started receiving orders for traditional sweets which will be prepared in the under-construction hub.

On January 9, the Chief Minister announced that the proposed Mishti Hub will be inaugurated on March 14. She made the announcement from the inaugural ceremony of Mati Utsav.

The decision to set up the hub was taken considering the business potential of the locally made traditional sweets and it was decided to sell the sweets in small packets in all the outlets of Biswa Bangla. She had also announced that the same sweets will be marketed abroad.
