Trinamool Congress on Monday hit the streets protesting against the central government’s decision to link Aadhaar card with the midday meals programme in schools.

Trinamool’s women activists led by Chandrima Bhattacharya took out a rally in central Kolkata, demanding the immediate rollback of the move dubbing it “anti-people.” Belting out slogans and displaying posters on themselves, they said students will starve due to the linking.

“To make Aadhar cards for children, one has to start when they are still in the womb? Do people now have to carry out ultra sonography to determine the sex of the infant so they can apply for an Aadhar card? Does it mean, the Centre is trying to legalise foetal sex determination,” Bhattacharya questioned.

Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had on Saturday termed as shocking the central government’s decision. “Now even infants (0-5 years) will need Aadhar cards? Aadhaar card for mid-day meals and ICDS? Shocking! 100 Days’ Work also not spared,” she had tweeted.

Meanwhile, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) will continue to give midday meal to students in its schools, Mayor Sovan Chatterjee said.

মিড ডে মিলের জন্য আধার কার্ড বাধ্যতামূলক, কেন্দ্রীয় সরকারের এই সিদ্ধান্তের প্রতিবাদে আজ পথে নামলো মহিলা তৃণমূল কংগ্রেস। সুবোধ মল্লিক স্কয়্যার থেকে রানি রাসমনি অ্যাভিনিউ পর্যন্ত মিছিলটির নেতৃত্ব দেন তৃণমূল মহিলা কংগ্রেসের সভানেত্রী চন্দ্রিমা ভট্টাচার্য।

কেন্দ্রীয় সরকার ঘোষণা করেছে, মিড ডে মিল পাওয়ার জন্য স্কুল পড়ুয়াদের আধার কার্ড থাকতে হবে। এই সিদ্ধান্তের বিরুদ্ধে আগেই ক্ষোভ উগরে দিয়েছিলেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়। বলেছিলেন, “কেন্দ্রীয় সরকারের এই সিদ্ধান্ত অবিশ্বাস্য। গরিব, খেটে খাওয়া মানুষ, আমাদের প্রিয় শিশুদের অধিকার থেকে বঞ্চিত করা হচ্ছে।”

মিছিল থেকে এবিষয়ে কথা বলতে গিয়ে চন্দ্রিমা ভট্টাচার্য  বলেন, “কেন্দ্রীয় সরকার মিড ডে মিলের জন্য আধার কার্ড বাধ্যতামূলক করেছে। সেখানে বয়সসীমা দিয়েছে শূন্য থেকে শুরু। আমরা শূন্য বছরের মানে বুঝতে পারলাম না। তাহলে কি কেন্দ্রীয় সরকার চাইছে মায়ের গর্ভে থাকার সময়ই শিশুর আধার কার্ড করতে হবে? আধারকার্ড করতে গেলে ছেলে না মেয়ে জানতে হবে। তাহলে কি কেন্দ্রীয় সরকার চাইছে মায়ের গর্ভে থাকাকালীন শিশুর লিঙ্গ নির্ধারণ করা হোক? তার মানে BJP পরিচালিত সরকার বেআইনি কাজকে সমর্থন জানাচ্ছে।”

A Trinamool Congress Parliamentary team will meet the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and will urge him to resolve the impasse over issuing of Aadhaar cards, party Chairperson Mamata Banerjee said on Tuesday.

She said despite repeated requests, the Centre did not resolve the problem. Of 9 crore people in the state, more than 2.5 crore people have not received their Aadhaar cards. The problem started after the Centre decided to complete the procedure of issuing Aadhaar cards by August 31.

She said the state government would launch massive campaign involving all sections of people including students urging the people to maintain cool.

“The Centre has failed to resolve the issue and on the contrary has made Aadhaar cards mandatory for many of its projects,” the Chairperson said.

She had raised the issue during her meeting with the Prime Minister in Delhi recently. She maintained that non availability of Aadhaar cards was creating serious law and order problem.

আধার সমস্যা নিয়ে প্রধানমন্ত্রীর সঙ্গে দেখা করবে তৃণমূলের সংসদীয় দল

তৃণমূল কংগ্রেসের সংসদীয় দলের প্রধানমন্ত্রীর সঙ্গে সাক্ষাৎ করবে এবং আধার কার্ড সংক্রান্ত সবরকম সমস্যা সমাধান করার আর্জি জানাবে, মঙ্গলবার একথা জানিয়েছেন তৃণমূল সুপ্রিমো মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়।

তিনি বলেন, “আধার কার্ড নিয়ে ভয়াবহ পরিস্থিতি তৈরি হয়েছে। গুরুতর আইন-শৃঙ্খলার সমস্যা দেখা দিয়েছে”।

তিনি বলেন, বার বার অনুরোধ করা সত্ত্বেও কেন্দ্রে আধার কার্ড  সমস্যা সমাধান করেনি। রাজ্যের ৯ কোটি মানুষের মধ্যে ২.৫ কোটির বেশি মানুষ তাদের আধার কার্ড পান নি। কেন্দ্র নিজের মত সময়সীমা ঠিক করেছে ৩১শে আগস্ট আর তারপর থেকেই সমস্যা শুরু হয়েছে।

মুখ্যমন্ত্রী বলেন, “কেন্দ্র আধার কার্ড সমস্যার সমাধান করতে ব্যর্থ হয়েছে এবং এর পরিবর্তে এই   কার্ড বাধ্যতামূলক করেছে”।

সম্প্রতি দিল্লিতে প্রধানমন্ত্রীর সঙ্গে বৈঠকে তিনি বিষয়টি উত্থাপন করেছিলেন। তিনি বলেন যে আধার কার্ডের অপর্যাপ্ততা গুরুতর আইন-শৃঙ্খলা সমস্যা তৈরি করছে।

Trinamool Congress, along with the Samajwadi Party, Biju Janata Dal and the Janata Dal (United), today gave a Notice of Suspension of business in the Rajya Sabha to take up a discussion on the issue of stoppage of services to people who do not have Aadhaar cards.

In Lok Sabha, the Chief Whip of the party, Kalyan Banerjee raised the issue during Zero Hour.

Speaking on the issue, the leader of the party in Rajya Sabha, Derek O’Brien said, “This Govt talks of cooperative federalism but in action it bypasses the opinion of States. Across the country, people are suffering. They cannot get various services and facilities like pension, LPG and kerosene.”

Kalyan Banerjee demanded in Lok Sabha that the mandatory provision for Aadhaar card should be waived until there is 100 per cent coverage of Aadhaar in the country. He said in West Bengal over one crore people were yet to receive Aadhaar cards and were thus being denied benefits of various schemes.

Chief Whip of the party in Rajya Sabha, Sukhendu Sekhar Roy reminded the government that the apex court of the country, in a judgment in October, 2015, had said Aadhar should be voluntary and not compulsory.

West Bengal Chief Minister has been vocal on the issue of Aadhaar. In West Bengal, 40 per cent people are yet to receive Aadhaar cards and the Chief Minister has written several times to the Centre not to make Aadhaar mandatory unless 100 per cent coverage is achieved.

Continued protests by Trinamool and other parties led to the adjournment of the Rajya Sabha more than once.
