Ready to give my life but won’t let anyone snatch your citizenship: Mamata Banerjee

Mamata Banerjee addressed a meeting in Krishnanagar.

Highlights of her speech:

You have to diligently work for the betterment of the Nadia district organisation. I am asking my MLAs to not fight among themselves. Those who cannot control their egos can leave the party. I have no need for them. And without the symbol, there’s nothing.

The Trinamool family cannot be broken up. Those who quarrel would have to leave, however big a leader they may be. If Trinamool is united, BJP, CPI(M) and Congress would not be able to do anything.

What has the BJP done for the Matuas? Before every election, they come here to become the messiah of the Matua community and start lying about NRC, but once elections are done, they begin their divide-and-rule politics, be it with the Matuas or Rajbanshis.

Before every election, the BJP brings in people from outside the state, who start talking about giving you the right to citizenship. Who is not a citizen? Who said you are not citizens? Then how were their MPs and MLAs elected by your vote? And how did the prime minister become the prime minister without your votes?

I am saying this with all my authority: All my Matua brothers and sisters are citizens of this country. No one can snatch your citizenship. I am ready to give my life but won’t let anyone snatch your citizenship.

Federal structure must remain intact: Mamata Banerjee

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee attended the convocation ceremony of the West Bengal University of Juridical Sciences today.

Highlights of her speech at the programme:

Democracy is under attack at the hands of a group of people.
If this continues, the country will turn into an autocracy.
The federal stricture must remain intact.
We have seen in the last two months, what the judiciary is all about.
In many cases, media trials are taking place before the actual trials, which goes against the ethos of a proper judicial system.
In these types of situations, a person’s reputation is destroyed even before a court gives a judgment.
The reputation of character is a person’s most precious possession. Once it is lost, it’s impossible to get it back.
The judiciary must save democracy.

People of Bengal want unity, not division: Mamata Banerjee

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee participated in the Bijoya programme at the Kawakhali Ground in Siliguri.

Highlights of her speech at the programme:

The Biswa Bangla Sharad Samman has been awarded to 96 puja committees from each of the eight districts of north Bengal. Six thousand clubs in the region which organised Durga Pujas were each given a grant of Rs 60,000 by the state government.

I am extending my best wishes on the occasion of Bijoya Dashami to my brothers and sisters who work in the tea gardens.

I visited the families whose members lost lives in the flash flood in Malbazar. A member from each of those families has been provided with a job by the government. The families have been given an ex gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh each and Rs 1 lakh each to the people who participated in the rescue operation.

Some live in north Bengal, some in the south, but we all live in the same state—Bengal.

If required, like the Bengal Global Business Summit, a North Bengal Business Summit can be organised.

We don’t distinguish between businesspeople. We want all businesspeople to invest in Bengal and provide jobs to the people of the state.

We are planning to build an airport in Hashimara. Three to four more airports will be built in north Bengal, on the scale of Bagdogra.

I want large-scale employment. We don’t want to snatch away anyone’s job.

I request everyone to be happy with their work, to not create trouble.

The people of Bengal want unity, not division.

A group of people is bent on giving a bad name to Bengal: Mamata Banerjee

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee published the festival number of the party mouthpiece, Jago Bangla today, on the occasion of Mahalaya. Several Tollywood stars were present on the occasion. The special feature of this year’s edition is the cover art, created by the chief minister herself.

Highlights of her speech:

This newspaper does not take a single paisa from government advertisements. But still, for once, it has published a notice asking for advertisements.

I am increasingly noticing a fact: That even my personal opinion is being distorted. The Pappu the Greats are saying whatever they feel like.

The biggest Pappu in India is Amit Shah because he wants to score goals in an empty [Opposition-free] field.

Curse us as much as you want, it doesn’t matter. On this holy day of Mahalaya, I pray to god to bless everybody. If you can sleep peacefully even after heaping insults on to us, please do. We have never sought revenge, and that is why we never arrested anybody, however grave might have been the wrongs they did. ‘Change, not revenge’ has been our motto.

Nobody is a sacred cow—that they cannot or will not commit any wrong deeds. Those sitting in Delhi are using the agencies under their control to harass others despite knowing it should not be done—just keeping their eyes closed. May Maa Durga give strength to one and all.

For a group of people, badmouthing Bengal seems to be the only work. Bengal’s culture teaches us to hold our heads high. As per their opinion, everyone in Trinamool is bad. And are they all really good? They would have done much better had they looked up and seen the development we have brought in the state.

There is no longer any need to leave Bengal for jobs: Mamata Banerjee

Youth given vocational job training were handed over appointment letters today by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at the Netaji Indoor Stadium. She also spoke about projects being implemented in districts across the state.

Highlights of her speech:

After coming to power, I had dreamt that Bengal would become the best in the world. Kanyashree has won a United Nations award, Durga Puja has been recognised by UNESCO and junior school education in Bengal has been adjudged the best in the country. May Bengal continue to progress.

There is no longer any need to leave Bengal for jobs. Jobs will now come to your doorsteps.

A total of around 30,000 youth would be given appointment letters.

While unemployment has reached a 45-year-high in the country, employment has increased by 40 per cent in Bengal.

Durga Puja creates business opportunities worth Rs 40,000 crore; craftspeople and decorators earn a lot.

Most people have no idea about the number of MSMEs in the state. There are 90 lakh of them, employing, directly and indirectly, 1 crore 36 lakh.

There are 200 industrial parks being created. Rs 72,000 crore has been invested in a project in Raghunathpur, which would create a lot of jobs.

They Railways is being sold off; in fact, they are selling off everything. So how will they create jobs?

I am feeling good to see boys and girls from Bengal getting jobs across the country. But I wish that you all eventually return. There is no place better than your home. Even if you don’t have much, being with all your family brings a different kind of happiness.

We will all unite in 2024: Mamata Banerjee

A booth-level workers’ meeting was held at Netaji Indoor Stadium today, where 17,000 party representatives, including 1,840 block presidents were president.

Highlights of her speech:

They wanted to make the government of Jharkhand fall with Rs 10 crore. We saved the government. Now Nitishji is with us, so is Akhilesh and Hemant. We will all unite in 2024. Let everyone fight in their own ways in the places they are strong in. After the results we will together decide who would become the prime minister.

I am getting a lot of complaints against councilors. The party has given you the tickets to work for the party and the people, and not for yourselves. If there are too many complaints against any one, they would get up one fine morning to find their posts gone.

The media nowadays is only trying to find out what is rotten inside Trinamool and cannot see the good things. They are busy setting people off against one another, like Shatabdi against Keshto, myself against Abhishek. But they fail to understand that this would ultimately not help. Their TRP would not go up.

Why was Bengal not invited in the prime minister’s meeting with the Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina? Such a thing happened for the first time. She wanted to meet me. I was not allowed to visit China and Chicago.

We will hold the panchayat elections peacefully. Then, 2024 will see the match of our lives, and the match will begin here in Bengal.

Religion is one’s own, but a festival is for everyone: Mamata Banerjee

UNESCO has added Durga Puja in Kolkata to its list of Intangible Cultural Heritages. To celebrate that, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had given the call for a grand, colourful celebratory procession in the city. The procession started from Jorasanko and concluded with a function on Red Road.

Highlights of the chief minister’s speech at the concluding show:

This is a historic programme.

Durga Puja unites all of us, lifting us above all narrow-mindedness. It brings spiritualism and artistry together.

I congratulate all artistes, and I have a special congratulation for Sourav. All our IAS officers are also here.

I congratulate Tapati Devi. She and her team works in the field of social research. I also salute the team at UNESCO.

Religion is one’s own, but a festival is for everyone. I am happy to have got the cooperation of UNESCO. We have taken out celebrations across Bengal today. Therefore, my congratulations to all. We are all happy to have got this special recognition from UNESCO.

I came into politics to serve society: Mamata Banerjee

This meeting today is being held to celebrate the foundation of Trinamool Congress ChhatraParishad. Every year, a special meeting is held on August 28 to commemorate the foundation day of Trinamool Congress ChhatraParishad. But since the day was a Sunday this year, we are holding the meeting today.

Highlights of Mamata Banerjee’s speech:

So many people have got jobs during the Trinamool rule. And what about during the Left Front rule? Is there any data on that?

Rajiv had 400 MPs, but still he lost. Indira Gandhi too had to lose. BJP has just around 300 MPs. Bihar is already out of their hands. If elections come, they would win nothing. They would be left holding rasgullas.

Neither do I take my MP’s pension nor my chief minister’s salary. I use as less of government vehicles as possible. I live in a leased place. As per the law, I am a common person.

Why was Keshto arrested? There are few people as helpful as him. I do not know what Partha’s crime is, the issue is sub judice, but what is being done to him is simply slander. A conspiracy s being hatched against him.

After Trinamool came to power, 1,63,970 teachers have been appointed. More than 1.5 crore have got jobs in the government and in private concerns. Employment has increased by 40 per cent.

I respect the ED and CBI. But some of these agencies’ officials are involved in corruption. If Delhi tries to take any steps against our state police, I would take proper legal steps. I am keeping a close watch.

During our 11 years in power, we neither got funds nor enough opportunities from Delhi, only insults and neglect.

I came into politics to serve society. The BJP has destroyed the country in its eight years in power. It is only filling up its treasury with crores and crores of money.

I shall strive every day for our dream India: Mamata Banerjee

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee participated today in the Independence Day celebrations on Red Road in Kolkata. She even got down from the stage to shake a leg with Adivasi dancers, who were among the participants.

Earlier, she had tweeted on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of independence.

“On the completion of 75 years of Independence, India must awaken to the real essence of Independence. We must stay true to the vision of our forefathers and keep the aspirations of our future generations at heart. My heartfelt greetings to all my fellow citizens. Jai Hind!
