WB Government to appoint monitoring cell for private universities

State education minister Partha Chatterjee on Monday said that a monitoring cell is being set up to check whether the new private universities are adhering to statutes. These are open for admissions in the 2015-16 academic year.

The state, on Monday, pushed ahead with two more private universities – The Amity University and The University of Engineering and Management, Kolkata – both set to come up in Rajarhat.

The Education Minister said, “A monitoring cell is being set up. This will have the district magistrate and SDOs (of where the private universities are proposed to come up), public representatives and departmental nominees. They will keep a tab on the time-bound completion before the students are admitted in the 2015-16 academic session. Inspection teams will also be set up to monitor other aspects.”
