Tata group to expand business in Bengal, praises State Govt for cooperation
Five Tata group managing directors on Monday called on West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, to discuss about their respective companies.
The managing directors- Rana Sinha of Tata Hitachi Construction Machinery Company, Dibyendu Bose of TM International Logistics Limited, Sandipan Chakravortty of Tata Steel Processing and Distribution Limited, Viresh Oberoi of mjunction, and Sanjiv Paul of Tata Metaliks – met at Nabanna, the makeshift state secretariat. Finance and industry minister, Dr Amit Mitra, was also present.
A follow-up meet
“This was just a follow-up meet after Chief Minister's Bijoya Sammilani. She had asked us whether there were any issues. So this meeting was organised to discuss the future of manufacturing,” Tata Hitachi managing director, Rana Sinha said.
“Forget the issues of the past and target the future,” he added.
Tata Steel Processing and Distribution Ltd MD Sandipan Chakraborty said WB CM asked them if they were facing any problems and how the state government could assist them to overcome them. 
“Such an interaction with the CM is unprecedented. The meeting was positive, optimistic and fruitful,” Mr Chakraborty said.
Expansion of investments
Talking to the media after the meeting, Tata Metaliks MD Sanjiv Paul said his company was all set to invest Rs 1500 crore creating employment opportunity for about 2,500 people.
Metaljunction MD & CEO Viresh Oberoi, also the Chairman of the CII Eastern Region, said the Chief Minister asked him to take care of some tea gardens in north Bengal.
“The Chief Minister was interested in our e-auction of natural resources and asked us whether we could auction five tea gardens owned by the state government in Dooars. We have sought details,” Mr Oberoi said. 
A fruitful meeting
After the 90-minute long meeting, state Finance and Industry Minister Amit Mitra told reporters that Tata Group was keen on expanding many of their existing projects in the state creating more employment opportunities.  He added that TCS CEO and MD N Chandrasekaran wrote to him about its expansion plan.
