Swasthya Sathi cards for 1 cr more people by end of Nov
The Bangla Government would ensure that all the 7.5 crore eligible people are brought the benefits of the Swasthya Sathi Scheme by the end of November. This translates into 1.5 crore families. The current coverage is of 6.5 crore people, or 1.3 crore families.
According to government data, in the two-and-a-half years since the scheme was introduced in December 2016, 7.12 lakh people have accessed the benefits of Swasthya Sathi, filing claims to the tune of Rs 722 crore. Due to the rapidly increasing number of claimants, the government has kept a provision of spending up to Rs 1,300 crore for Swasthya Sathi.
A total of 1,612 hospitals, including government and private, are enlisted in the scheme, of which 1,472 have already started providing the relevant services. Each participant family is issued a Swasthya Sathi card, in the name of the head female member of the family. This enables cashless treatment, which is very convenient.
