State Govt’s Krishak Bandhu a resounding success

State Govt’s Krishak Bandhu a resounding success

In a huge leap towards the advancement of the agricultural sector, the Bangla Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, has been able to provide financial assistance, worth more than Rs 500 crore, to nearly 40 lakh farmers under the Krishak Bandhu scheme. This is according to latest data from the State Agriculture Department, collated till September 9.

While farmers in other parts of the country have committed suicide, in Bangla, they have gone from strength to strength by reaping the benefits of several State Government schemes.

The Krishak Bandhu Scheme has two components: an ‘assured income’ component under which a farmer gets Rs 2,000 to Rs 5,000 annually, depending on the amount of cultivable land he owns, and a ‘death benefit’ component of Rs 2 lakh (one-time benefit).

The latest data (till September 9) says that farmers have received aid of Rs 478.37 crore under the ‘assured income’ component and farmer families have received Rs 23.46 crore under the ‘death benefit’ component.

It may be mentioned that in the agricultural sector, the State Government has made a budgetary allocation of Rs 6,086 crore for 2019-20 in its annual budget against Rs 2,766 crore in 2018-19, which is a 120 per cent increase.

The Krishak Bandhu Scheme was announced by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on December 31 and rolled out formally on February 15.
