State Govt starts Haemophilia Control Programme
The Bangla Government has started a new project called Haemophilia Control Programme (HCP) from November 1 across 34 government hospitals, including medical colleges, and district and sub-divisional hospitals.
This programme would be implemented in those hospitals which have thalassaemia control units (TCU). At each hospital, to implement the programme, there would be five medical personnel – medical officer, lab technician, counsellor, staff nurse and data entry operator (DEO).
Each such hospital would also be equipped with a semi-automated coagulometer. Eight of the hospitals have already brought these machines; the rest would have them soon.
The Institute of Haematology and Transfusion Medicine (IHTM) at Calcutta Medical College and Hospital has been selected as the nodal technical centre for Haemophilia Control Programme. The programme would be overseen by the Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) Cell at Swasthya Bhavan, Kolkata.
Patients have to visit the IHTM once for detailed tests and thereafter all treatments would be undertaken by the nearest HCT centre.
