Solar-driven pump sets for farmers in north Bengal

Solar-driven pump sets for farmers in north Bengal

The State Government will distribute solar power-driven pump sets among the farmers in north Bengal. This was announced by the North Bengal Development Minister a few days back.

The estimated cost of the project is Rs 12.80 crore. As the pump sets will be driven by solar power, the cost of running them will be less, resulting in rationalisation of electric bills. Besides for agriculture, the pump sets will be used for fish cultivation.

The same plots are being planned to be used for both crop cultivation and fish farming. After the sowing of seeds, an embankment of around 12 inches will have to be set up around each plot and the land will have to be filled by water up to 4 inches after 20 days from the day of sowing of seeds. The fingerlings of Nile tilapia (also called nilotica) are being planned to be released in the water.
