Singur Verdict : The Victory of Ma, Mati, Manush

The Calcutta High Court Wednesday upheld the constitutional validity of the Singur Land and Rehabilitation Act passed by the Ma, Mati, Manush government in West Bengal scrapping the land lease given to Tata Motors in the area.
Justice Indra Prasanna Mukherjee of the Calcutta High Court gave the verdict in a packed court room here. The Act was constitutional and valid, said the High Court. It said the act provided sufficient public purpose. The High Court appointed Hooghly DM and SP as special officers to oversee smooth transfer of land from Tatas to West Bengal government in two months.
The Singur Land Rehabilitation and Development Act was passed by the Trinamool-led government scrapping the lease given by the previous government.
The Act was passed by the West Bengal assembly June 14. The Act came into force June 21.
