Mamata Banerjee speaks after core committee meeting

The Core Committee of the Trinamool Congress met on Friday evening at Trinamool Bhavan. Chaired by party supremo Mamata Banerjee, some of the decisions related to re-assignment of responsibilities of a few districts. They are:

South 24 Parganas: Firhad Hakim will be observer in addition to Sovan Chattopadhyay. They will be assisted by Abhishek Banerjee, while the president will be Subhashis Chakraborty.
Nadia: Partha Chatterjee will continue, and will be assisted by Subhendu Adhikary, who will also look after Paschim Medinipur and Jhargram Subrata Bakshi continues to be in charge of Paschim Medinipur. He will also look after Cooch Behar, where he will be assisted by Abhishek Banerjee. Bakshi also has the responsibility of Dakshin Dinajpur, where he will be assisted by Firhad Hakim.

Some other decisions were on the mega Brigade Parade Ground rally on January 19. A publicity committee has been set up, whose members include Subhendu Adhikary and Abhishek Banerjee. Another committee has been formed for the rally. Its chairman is Subrata Bakshi and the other members are Sudip Bandopadhyay, Saugata Roy, Subrata Mukherjee, Sovandeb Chattopadhyay, Sishir Adhikary, Derek O’Brien, Firhad Hakim, Arup Biswas, Chandrima Bhattacharya, Ashima Patra and Partha Chatterjee. All the district sabhadipatis will be members of this committee as well.

Addressing the media, Mamata Banerjee said top party leaders from all political parties across the country have been invited to the rally. The main objective is to defeat the BJP in 2019.

“I’ll invite both Congress & Mayawati for the rally. I’ve invited Kerala CM also. CPM constantly works against me, but I will invite them too. I appeal to all opposition parties to come together for the cause,” she said. Delhi CM and several other leaders have confirmed attendance.

The BJP Government has left the country in a shambles. Fuel prices are high, the rupee value has fallen to a record low, and all this on top of the harm that demonetisation and hasty implementation of GST has done. The country must be rescued, she said. In this context, Rahul Gandhi’s comment was correct. The value of the rupee was not breaking – it had already broken.

Referring to Bengal, she said the festive season was approaching. Many international media organisations would be covering Durga Puja this time. It would be a right time to highlight the progress the State has made. “But people must be careful about rumours and false news that are being spread in social media. Do not respond to them. If you come across anything, please contact the authorities,” she urged.

The party chief pointed out that the Media was being manipulated and ‘moneypulated’ by the ruling party at the Centre. The Trinamool will not be influenced by threats from central agencies, nor will any influence affect the path of progress being followed in Bengal. Darjeeling is peaceful and will remain so; no influence will disrupt this, we are keeping a watch, she said. We should ensure that BJP doesn’t win a single seat in Bengal. Their tactics will not work.
