Lalgarh in Jangalmahal to become a model village

Once a prime seat of Maoists, Lalgarh isall set to become the first model village in Jangalmahal, thanks to thedevelopmental policies of the Trinamool Government. The state government isplanning to rope in engineers from premier institutes like the Indian Instituteof Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur and IIT, Kharagpur and lay out adetailed plan so that this village can be upgraded with all modern facilities.

Last week, Minister of PaschimanchalUnnayan Parshad, Mr Sukumar Hansda, held a meeting with the district magistratesof Purulia, Bankura, West and East Midnapore and Birbhum in Bankura and it wasdecided that the state government would develop villages in all the 74 blocksof Jangalmahal.

“Since Lalgarh was once the most discussedvillage in Jangalmahal, we decided to develop it as a model village. It willnot only have all modern facilities, we are also trying to develop the area asa major tourist destination,” Mr Hansda said.

The district administration will lay roads,arrange electricity, drinking water, schools and colleges in the village. Riverdykes will be built, ponds will be cleaned and drainage will be improved. Therewill be a toilet in every home and the health centre will be developed into ahospital.
