Kolkata Police to provide self-defence training to women from May 19

With the continuing success of the project, Sukanya, Kolkata Police (KP) has now come up with another similar project, Tejashwini.
The purpose is the same, that is, teaching self-defence techniques, but the target group is more widespread – women of all ages, not necessarily school or college students (who are specifically covered under Sukanya). The free training will be open to women aged between 12 and 40. There will be different training schedules for different age groups.
The training would comprise of a six-day workshop – from May 19 to May 24. It will be held at the Police Athletic Club and would be run by the Kolkata Police Sergeants Institute. Black belt-holding trainers will teach the women basic self-defence moves, moves that that will make them confident to fight back.
According to Kolkata Police, the response from women has been good. Many have expressed their willingness to join and have put forth their views on Kolkata Police’s Facebook page.
