KMC to set up food safety laboratory
Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has decided to set up a food safety laboratory of international standards at its headquarters.
The laboratory would regularly test samples from the restaurants and hotels in the city. Not just that, the laboratory would test samples sent by the government from across the State. Thus it would be a central food testing laboratory.
All types of foods and beverages would be tested at this state-of-the-art facility. The construction would start after Durga Puja. However, keeping in mind the huge increase in consumption during the festive season, KMC would launch a mobile food testing facility.
Two such mobile food testing laboratories would roam across the city testing samples at random, both from big restaurants and roadside eateries. People can also pay to have food samples tested.
