Jagannath temple to be built in Digha

The State Government will construct a Jagannath temple near Jagannath Ghat in Digha, which has already emerged as a major tourist destination. This was announced by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee while speaking at the administrative review meeting in Digha on Thursday, December 11.
The temple would be similar to the famous Jagannath Temple in Puri, she said, adding that Jagannath Ghat would be renovated as well.
The Chief Minister instructed the State Tourism Department to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) after discussing the matter in detail with the district administration.
It may be mentioned here that the Trinamool Congress Government had taken up a massive beautification drive in the beach town and along the seashore. Since then, the footfall of tourists in Digha and other beach towns in the district has gone up significantly. Other beach towns near Digha are also being renovated, the works being at various stages of completion.
Among other announcements, she stated that the Digha Convention Centre is nearing completion, the Tajpur port will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 12,000 crore, and that a fund of Rs 17,000 crore has already been invested for various projects in the district while projects worth Rs 8,600 crore are in the pipeline.
