Swedish multinational IKEA, which operates in 50 countries, has expressed interest in procuring natural fibre and bamboo from Bangla, giving an impetus to the state’s Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector. The group has a plan of investing Rs 2,000 crore in the current financial year, to procure natural fibre and bamboo. There are possibilities of investment of a major part of it in Bengal.
With the expression of interest in procuring natural fibre and bamboo from the state, the company, with a global presence, is going to leave its footprint in Bangla. According to senior officials of the state MSME and Textiles department, this is an indicator of further investment in Bangla.
IKEA’s top official on Tuesday attended the third plenary session in the State MSME Conclave on Rural Entrepreneurship Hub (REH), that was coordinated by the former president of Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry Ambarish Dasgupta.
