Huge investment for incubation centre at Sector V

Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) has made its largest investment till date in Bangla – Rs 120 crore – for setting up an incubation centre at Sector V, the IT zone in Salt Lake.

Work on the project has already started. The centre will come up on five acres and will take around two years to complete.

According to the director-general of STPI, who made this announcement at a seminar in Kolkata on Thursday, December 6, there will be a network operating centre and a data centre in a single ecosystem, which will offer high-speed data communication services to the IT and ITeS industry in Bangla

Not only Bangla, he said that the IT centre will power the entire North-East as well, and act as an innovation hub for start-ups and IT entrepreneurs.

It may be mentioned that STPI presently operates five centres in the state – Kolkata, Durgapur, Haldia, Kharagpur and Siliguri.

Another investment announcement in the IT sector was also made at the seminar. The CEO of the information and communications technology (ICT) service major, Sify Technologies said that its 50,000 sq ft data centre at Rajarhat will be inaugurated by February next year.

He said that a successful data centre needs to have a combination of mindset, skill sets and toolset (implying software tools), and in Bangla, all three are available in abundance. The Bangla Government has a strong mindset. The skill sets can be easily built up at the many educational institutes in the State, and the company has the toolsets which it will use to build up the required skill sets.
